Recommendations - Dyson, other tower fan/heaters and Smartthings

Hi all,

TL;DR - Can anyone recommend a large floor tower fan for both cooling and heating with ST integration? Ideally “Dyson quality”.

Whilst native and full ST integration would be ideal, I could accept Google Home integration as a fallback. A large and a small tower options would be ideal (one for larger living room, smaller units for kids bedrooms).

In a utopian world, finding a way for any of the Dyson models that has native support for their own myDyson app to work with ST would be joyous, but it appears that’s isn’t viable as I understand it.

Any ideas?

We have a couple of Dyson tower fans. The older one is just a larger “bladeless” tower fan for cooling our bedroom (3rd floor) which is fine by being managed with a Meross smart plug using Smartthings and the remote. Just a powerful (and expensive!) cooling tower fan which is great. It’s formally called the “Dyson Cool™ AM07 tower fan” and now discontinued. Anyway, I recently Brough the newest shiny fan from Dyson for my home office which is a smaller tower fan for cooling, heating and air filtering. It’s called the “Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool™ Formaldehyde HP09 purifying fan heater”. (https://www.dyson.co.uk/air-treatment/purifiers/hot-cool-formaldehyde/white-gold)
The reason I opted for this model over the much cheaper ones that do cooling and heating (I’m not fussed about the filtering) was due to the “myDyson” app, which integrates with at least Google Home and Amazon Alexa. As I’m sure many of you know, there’s no native Smartthings integration and the Google Home integration leaves a lot to be desired. (At least on the Home app. I don’t use voice services).
However the myDyson app is actually excellent, just doesn’t talk nicely to ST.

I’m now seriously considering getting large tower cooling / heating fan for other rooms in the house such as fhe kids bedrooms. Whilst I don’t mind paying a bit more for a Dyson, the fact that the only cooler + heater with smart home / IoT integration is their most expensive model with filtering that I don’t require, and the very poor ST / IoT integration has ruled out buying more of the HP09 above.

Would love to find a tower fan of similar quality that cools, heats and integrates with Smartthings.

Suggestions welcome?

At present with your set up, your best bet would probably be Google routines.

There was just a discussion on this last month. I don’t think anything has changed since then. :thinking:

The one thing I would add is that if you find a device which has an IR remote, you might be able to use SwitchBot or a Tasmota IR blaster or Bond and get smartthings integration that way pretty easily. There are some additional IR blaster possibilities, but most would require more custom code to get them working.
