Schlage Door Lock Battery Died Suddenly

What is your lock model? If it’s the Schlage Connect Deadbolt/468/469 series then there’s a bug in the firmware of the lock and the way it reports battery. Having said that, there’s also a bug in the stock ST device handler in how often it checks the lock for battery updates. The first issue need more explanation (see below). At what percentage to change batteries in Schlage lever lock?

Generally electronic locks (magnetic levers) should be changed at 50% where as deadbolt (motor) locks should be changed around 75%. This is because of the load the lock/unlock actions put on the battery cause a sudden voltage drop and if the battery capability is diminished, those sudden voltage drops can translate into the voltage falling below the minimum operating voltage of the lock and render is dead suddenly. So while it may continue to function below these thresholds it can be very unpredictable and have unintended consequences. E.g. if the temperature suddenly drops outside, this can cause the battery voltage to further drop and shutdown the lock. The DTH will unlock many advanced features within your lock and fix lots of bugs in the locks/stock DTH but as @nathancu said it’s better to start by looking at the underlying issues.
