I visit many popular forums that have a proven category list that have been in use for a very long time. I would suggest looking at a few of those since obviously it works and they are easy to navigate and well laid out. this forum reminds of a wheel that is not well balanced. It could definitely use some overhauling but lets not reinvent the wheel.
just my 2 cents
Maybe do some polls and see what the community want? i am not even sure this forum can do polls even though i am pretty sure i saw one.
How is what I posted any less relevant than the post immediately above mine?
So what…that light strip CAN BE integrated, but ONLY if you pair it with something that’s…um…pairable.
I could pair a toaster too, but WTFC?
How about every light bulb and light strip deal out there? I bought a 3-pack of light strips for about twelve bucks a few months ago. I suppose I should have posted that too.
Again though, I’m not poking at every ridiculous item posted here.
It just happened to be that I was feeling extremely silly (and at first, I honestly thought that’s what they were doing too), and decided to respond in kind.
Sorry if it was just adding to your frustration of seeing dumb posts in here.
That was certainly NOT my intent.
At the end of the day though, it certainly is interesting that you specifically chose to quote my ridiculous post instead of the one that precipitated and prompted it. I guess you must like light more than water. lol (j/k)
Thanks
p.s. As for these ‘Deals’ categories, I don’t give a crap. Do as you wish. There are obviously strong (and valid) opinions on multiple ‘sides’, and until we all decide to just have it one way or another (or both) and stick to it, I’m just going to be a watcher. If I see something I like, I’ll ‘Like’ it. If not, I’ll go on to one of the other fifty or so threads that I’m behind on.

That first part wasn’t at me right? Cause I was goofin’
I couldn’t care less about the categories. Actually, that’s not true… When it was all in one I actually read it daily… And got lots of deals.
Now, I go in every once in a while just to read about all the bitching about how horrible people bitching are! Lol.
Folks should just “lighten” up! Haha do you “see” what I did there! Lol oops, I did it again! Bwahahaha! Oh, I kill me! I’m crushing this like a wrecking ball!
right. not at you at all.
I’ve just grown weary of all of this. I totally agree that it’s ridiculous. Having opinions is one thing (which I welcome and even invite, because hearing other people’s opinions is the only way we ever learn or grow at all in any area of life), but the attitudes just make it less enjoyable to be around here, and I just don’t give a d@mn anymore.
Uh…all this conversation and now I have no idea where the actual deals will be posted! Here? I don’t want to be singled out for posting in the wrong spot and CLEARLY I won’t post any pool deals. If you know where the deals will actually be posted, let me know. Thanks!
This will ensure you get emails for new topics and posts in this section.
Alternatively, you can subscribe to only new topics and then individually you can opt in for tracking every one of them if you want.
Thanks for the clarification…now that I understand what is being proposed I have an opinion…I don’t want to subscribe to the deals category…I will but I do prefer that the deals be in one thread so I don’t have to sift through conversations about the periphery of all deals/sales and/or swaps.
Actually if you “Subscribe to the deals category” it’s the easiest way Not to be sucked into discussion. After you read the OP deal, Mute the conversation…
Right but now I have to take an action where as in the thread I read the email and delete…now I have to read the email come to the community and mute…more work.
The one extra step may be more work, but taking all discussion to a different thread clearly wasn’t working either… This way is more organized, and easier to continue discussion which was much more of a pain than clicking mute, and very frustrating on mobile phone (highlight click quote reply(which is spotty on android mobile), open up discussion thread click paste is much more of a hassle than clicking mute) and when you forgot (or didn’t know) you got burnt at the stake for being off topic…
Alternate view — Don’t want emails every time someone posts something, I hate interruptions…just want a single topic to scroll through and see both the deals and what people think of those deals all in one place. No hopping around. No switching topics to search for what people think of something in another topic. The old way was the best way. So lets switch back.
no one is forcing you to set the deals category to “watching”, you could just peruse the category at your leisure almost the same way as the thread, but with one more layer of organization.
Personally, I found a single topic for deals to be most useful for quick scanning of anything new. Any further discussion in a separate general “discussion”’ topic or a new topic created to discuss a specific deal. I would rather not have to check separate topics just to hear about each new deal.
Closing the deals topic and creating a new one on a monthly basis seems reasonable too.
No need to reinvent the wheel, look at Slickdeals or Fatwallet, 1 deal per subject works very well and allow discussion around the product within the thread.
I vote for 1 deal per topic.
Yes I am serious. Even in the pic you posted, a new topic does not equal a new deal.
As others have pointed out, there’s no “correct” way to do this. I’m entitled to my opinion, which I decided to share, just as you’re entitled to yours.
You often find interesting things on the way to looking for something else. If you compartmentalize everything…you decrease the chance of fate, surprise, innovation, invention, and creativity…because you just didn’t see something in a glance. The excuse to go everywhere and look at everything in all the compartments doesn’t make up for driving by it accidentally and surprising your intellect!
the reason i don’t like a single topic is many people get off topic and I have to scroll up and down and try to determine where i actually left off.
topic for Phillips hue
topic for ge link
topic for a pool at lowes
this keeps me from looking through 12 post because the pool came with a leak and no filter ect I can go straight to those hue bulbs and see whats being said the bulbs and not about the pool and its leaky filter
