I have both units. Given the choice go with Home Control. It allows smartthings to control the TV, and control lights via the remote/App. I did not have the level of integration with Smart Control.
I am pretty sure that the Best Buy does not have the Home Hub (I may be wrong, but the picture is not of the Home Hub). Home control from Amazon is $99 for black and ~$83 for white.
Still its an awesome universal remote, I like the simple remote versus the touch screen one. Still have the app if I want to get fancy.
No, the hub is what connects to st. The only difference between the two is the home control has 4 dedicated buttons you can use for ha devices. The smart control remote can’t directly control ha
This is correct. Both will connect to ST and Echo. And now with the ST integration with Logitech… you no longer need IFTTT to trigger. Cant wait to get it!
I bought the cheaper one but it wont be here for a week… I’m being impatient and might just spring the extra $30 so I can have it now.
I’m torn between the $179 refurb Ultimate and the $99 Home Control new. I’m not sure if the Ultimate would be over kill. I’m trying to keep things DH friendly. He gets a deer in the headlights look every time I change things up - lol. Any recommendations?
Before this I had 900 touch (not st compatible) the nice thing about the touch was it had a fix button that my wife always used if the sound turned off. Also you could create digital touch buttons and bane them. It can be more user friendly that way.
I had to set up 4 power toggle buttons on the smart control and teach it to her (and anyone using the TV randomly)
The reason I didn’t get the touch you posted was merely cosmetic. I didn’t like the screen in the middle, also it really bugs me these remotes share ff and skip. …
Anyways were redoing the theatre and I will probably get the new touch for down there.
So I am disappointed I didn’t go with the ultimate. I have all various entertainment options controllable through the echo (just the hub, no remote) but still use the old remotes for volume, mute and channel surfing. This is across two remotes. Also when Alexa gives you issues you can manually just push the selection on the ultimate remote. Today we use the iPad
In general, the harmony works great if you commit 100% for on/off/ source selection. If you have someone that keeps grabbing the old remotes it won’t “stick”
Yeah… I had the same problem before hiding old remotes. If Harmony Hub thinks something is on, Or someone didn’t turn stuff off with the press of a button to the hub and something went to “sleep” it won’t change it again in a scene. If you get a physical remote you should add power toggles like i did (i put them on the colored buttons and set them to the “hold” function)
My biggest constant issue is when I pause a show/movie to go do something and by the time I get back the powersaver on or more devices has kicked in and shut them off. Then I have to open the app and " fix activity " to turn them back on. Just for that reason I had to unhide the old Tivo remote , since I can not get the wife to use a phone or tablet to control TV .
Turn Off powersaver? Instead set up Rule Machine to press power everything off if no motion? I can’t figure out how to turn it off on my soundbar which is my biggest problem.
I just tried 3 different items " on sale" with their respective promo codes. They were all 5% off regular retail price. Not enough to have me running out ( clicking) to buy them
Not great deals, but I almost never see the ecobee3 on sale. Now that it is integrated with Echo, I am thinking of taking the plunge, but wish I could find a better deal. Just in time for the Keen vents I just ordered thanks to everyone on this thread. Has anyone seen a new ecobee3 cheaper than that?
