Possible bad open/close sensor?

I have a ST open/close sensor. About a week after setting it up, I noticed it rarely works. I don’t believe it is a connectivity issue as I have other devices connecting to ST in the room. Whenever I open up the sensor on the ST app it simply says ‘Inactive’ but seems to occasional give me a temperature reading, but never an open/close reading.

Any thoughts or do I have a lousy sensor?

It could be a connectivity issue between the device and the hub. How far apart are they?
