Please help! Can't connect Samsung TV ks8000 to SmartThings hub

Has anyone managed to get a warranty extension or partial refund for their TV since this is an advertised feature that doesn’t work.

No but I did get a free SmartThings hub.

This was just today

I just want to develop a smartthings app for the samsung tv app store lol.

So I was reported…sigh. Lets try again.

So ST knew that our 2016 TVs was going to get pulled from the ST Hub.

Very underhanded indeed. So ST do this, they also have a power output that could cause a fire(not up to british standard).
Their Multi sensor has had battery problems for months. And the ST motion sensor gives up.

A IT friend is coming round my place to put a sniffer on my PC. So then I can bloke updates until they are really tested.

What app was you using when you got the message.

If true then ST knew they was dropping the TV support from the word go.

Samsung+ app. I have a galaxy S7

I haven’t got that app on my S8.
But thanks for telling me

Hi Eric,
Unfortunately, I don’t have any more information at this time.
We are still working on it and my developers have been since this week as well.
We will let you know the moment we have an answer.

… exactly the same. Verbatim.

Welp. Also posted in thread Unable to connect to KS8000 - and with other info, it seems Samsung seems to have deliberately disabled the Smartthings integration with the KS8000 to try to replace it with crappy samsung connect integration??

I tried to download the Samsung Connect app & added my TV there. Big whoop, a wifi remote. NOT what I want. I went and tried to connect to samsung connect via google home - but I can only integrate with “smartthings/samsung connect” in one go, and guess what that points to my smartthings.

I tried to go to my samsung account instead of smartthings, no go. So I have a TV out here in limbo that I can’t turn on and off from my google home, because Samsung wants to try to push their latest and greatest crap which doesn’t integrate with jack squat.

How about your existing customers? If this is the kind of support we are going to get, there is no way I would ever buy any samsung connect or any other garbage that is just going to get support ripped out when marketing decides to try something new.

Cross-posted here as well, and you can see some of the conflicting messaging from Samsung in the thread there: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/TVs/Smartthings-integration-on-TVs-broken-for-months/m-p/239237/highlight/false

Ha… Really interesting reply from Smartthings support this time. The post he is referring to is SamsungCole on Samsung Community - Samsung Community

Hi Eric,
The reason it is the same response because we are still working on it and there are still engineers working on it. As of December 20th, 2017, there are engineers talking about their efforts and are working hard on making it work again.
That post is wrong and we have reached out to the Samsung Team to correct this. The Firmware on the TV is exactly what broke the integration.
The support hasn’t been removed, it’s just changed in how it operates and we are reworking it.
I apologize that the Samsung TV Team broke the integration with SmartThings, it came as a surprise to the SmartThings Team as well.
The Samsung Connect App can connect to Google Assistant but for it to have both SmartThings and Samsung Connect, you would need to tear down your build and redo it in the Connect App. We are working on a way to not have to do this for the future but it is not the case at this time.
Currently, if you want voice control, you either need to redo your setup in the Connect App and then use SmartThings with your Samsung Account or use a Logitech Harmony Hub.
Kind regards,
Jake K.

So I follow these steps and it worked! However it wants me to now connect my hub version 2 which means I would have to reconnect all of the devices in my house which is over like 25 devices that would be a huge pain in the ass!! I will say though going through this setup process you can finally change the names of the devices and they show up differently in The Connect app on your phone so Bixby will turn off the downstairs TV for upstairs TV instead of just asking you which TV you want to control. This is definitely a mess

Re adding everything is no go for me. 40 devices would be a big Pain. I don’t recommend that, although I’m considering it myself.

So anybody that uses their samsung account to login to smartthings can see most devices in both samsung connect and smartthings. It’s that your stitch?

Yeah that’s how it’s working for me anyway. I think I’m just going to buy a second hub so that I don’t have to reset my original hub and add all of my devices again. Readding all my devices would take probably most the day and who knows if everything would work properly again.
It definitely shouldn’t work that way but I guess I needed to log in with my Samsung account when I originally set up my hub… who knew??

Have you talked with Support to explain the situation between your accounts and your devices?

Same issue here. I suppose half a day is prob not worth $100 to many people. If I do get another hub it might be one of the ADT integrated ones or a Gen 3 hub whenever those are released.

I read that samsung is working on merging ST accounts with Samsung accounts. Normally I wouldn’t put much stock in it, but they’ve already migrated The ST devices in samsung accounts to Samsung connect.

Really they just need to allow account type changes. St to samsung.

For those worried that ST was going away to be replaced by another samsung app, it turns out the reverse is true. All other samsung apps will be consumed by ST.

Yay! This is the right decision - hopefully this explains why info has been scattered and things kind of went radio silent recently. Hopefully it also explains why they seem to have broken things… hope they can keep everything humming along nicely while reworking things on the back end. This platform is too powerful and too popular on its own to ignore or try to roll into other apps.

Reading the actual source of that article - https://news.samsung.com/us/recap-press-conference-modular-tv-unified-iot-experience-digital-cockpit-connected-car/ - I’m not sure how Android Central gets all their additional info about how many things are being merged into Smartthings, but I’m cautiously optimistic.
