Philips hue outdoor motion sensor

Hey all. I can´t make my philips hue motion sensor (black) work with smart things. When I install it in the app, it appears as a “thing” and cant don anything. I used a device handler in the past. But now it dosenst work - what to do ??

You can use a custom edge driver for it. You’re connecting it directly to a SmartThings/Aeotec hub, right? Not via a hue bridge?

If so, try this one:

[Edge Driver] Hue Motion Sensor (No Hue Bridge)

if it still shows up as a thing, you may have a model with a slightly different fingerprint. If so, ask for help in that thread and hopefully they’ll be able to get it added to the custom driver.

That thread ends with ‘Looks like the entire Hue-Range of sensors/sockets cut out working with Smartthings’…
Is that the end of it, or should I try anyway? (I haven’t done any Edge driver installs at all yet. A bit cautious)
Thanks.

If you are currently using the Philips Hue integration… your issue is probably related to the following: https://community.smartthings.com/t/uk-v2-hub-not-communicating-with-hue-devices-june-2023/264437/52

Thanks for that. I was hoping to run the Philips Hue Outdoor Sensors directly with SmartThings, without the Philips Hue Hub.
I see that Hubitat has been able to do it.
Is it not possible with the new Edge SmartThings??
Thanks.

I believe the community edge driver from @blueyetisoftware supports the outdoor motion sensor

I can vouch for the driver being excellent, although I don’t have the outdoor sensor.

@skinnypope is correct that my driver supports the outdoor sensors. It does require a hub though. There is a different driver that supports the outdoor sensor using generic zigbee, but I don’t have a link to it. If you do use my driver with the hub, it has additional features such as the ability to bypass the sensor using automations. For example, you can turn it off with your security modes.

Ah yes I missed the “no hub” part. In that case I believe the edge driver is this one that @JDRoberts already posted:

I have it currently working for Hue indoor sensors, but it is less featured than @blueyetisoftware driver, which I’d recommend if you ever get a hue hub.

Great. Thanks much. I should have time to try it today. And thanks for sharing your work!

I’m using the hue outdoor motion sensor directly with st with the camera due driver.
At the moment I’m using as a lux sensor mostly. The motion sensor was generating too many false positive due to sunlight and clouds moving triggering it.

Ok, that’s good to know.
So I take it there isn’t any kind of ‘sensitivity’ adjustment.
Thanks

Hi, I just tried your driver and now virtually every device on my hub has been deleted. I have over 120 devices which took about 3 years to configure. I think I am going to cry.

Help!

I’m sorry you’ve run into that, but the timing is probably coincidental, as a number of community members have been posting in the last two days that they have had devices disappearing from their accounts, and many of them do not have any hue devices at all.

The driver I gave you the link to isn’t mine, so please ask any questions specific to it in that author’s thread.

As far as the disappearing devices, there are at least five or six threads from this week about those, so you should look for one that most closely matches your own experience. People have reported missing virtual switches, missing Zigbee devices, missing everything. :scream:

I myself had multiple devices break, and I hadn’t made any changes at all for well over a month.

For most people, it looks like it may be related to recent firmware updates, but it’s hard to tell for sure.

Thanks for the fast reply JD. My entire hub has disappeared from my account. I’m concerned its been hijacked in some way as cannot re-add it to my account. have opened a support request with Samsung but not holding out much hope :frowning:

What model hub do you have? There was a problem with one of the firmware updates They released today and engineering is looking into it:

V3 i think - IM6001-V3P22

Its sitting there with the green light on but not showing in my account. Have power cycled it and done a soft reboot but no joy. Tried adding it back to my account using the QR code but that isn’t working either…

Not head anyting back from Samsung support yet :frowning: My problem is i have a bunch of devices I cant operate (lights, blinds - that are half closed! - etc) but dont want to change anything incase Samsung can somehow fix it…

Doing a hard reset and starting all over again from scratch will not be a small task. Given there is no way to backup a config I am seriously considering moving to HA. Need something that has at least something resembling recoverability…

Hi, @ijhammo
We can help you out to see what’s going on. So, if I understand correctly, your Hub and all devices connected to it disappeared from your account, correct?
Can you provide support access to your account, please?

  1. Confirm the email account registered in the forum is the same one you use for SmartThings. If not, please share it with me over DM
  2. Enable support access to your account:
  1. Go to the SmartThings Web (my.smartthings.com)
  2. Log in to your Samsung Account
  3. Select Menu (⋮) and choose Settings
  4. Toggle on Account Data Access
  5. Select the time period and confirm - In this step, please select “Until turned off”, once the team finishes, we’ll let you know so you can disable it again.

In the last few days all my Hue motion sensors have reverted to a “zigbee thing” driver (ie non functional and does nothing)… They all last report something in the early hours of Friday morning, and then history stops.

It’s not possible to change their driver types to zigbee motion sensor, or any other existing driver as they just report a fingerprint error.

Same issue here. Hue outdoor motion sensors changed to Zigbee Thing, and I cannot change to Zigbee Motion Sensor. I get a fingerprint error.

Hi, @Steve_Hunt, @elbates
Could you provide the following, please?

  • Name of the affected devices
  • Support access to your account:
  1. Confirm the email account registered in the forum is the same one you use for SmartThings. If not, please share it with me over DM
  2. Enable support access to your account:
  1. Go to the SmartThings Web (my.smartthings.com)
