[OBSOLETE] MyQ Lite Door and Lamp Control (for Liftmaster/Chamberlain)

Thank you for the update I have been losing my mind on what to do with my MYQ since I had to migrate to the new app. So I was reading your github and it says it still only works on classic. I do not know if you want to update that or not.

Good call - I will update that text as the app generally works fine.

What’s the point of the virtual switch? Everything works for me in the new app, I have sensors on my 2 doors. The garage doors each have a device and I can Open/Close them from the new app. In the old app, I have extra buttons on the device tile for Open and Close that are not showing up in the new app - but I’m pretty sure that’s a different issue - we don’t have the custom UI yet.

I updated my app, but do I need to go through Modify Devices and add the virtual switches? I also use ST through Google Assistant and that works great too.

Usually no point for most people that have sensors on the door. Those switches are a workaround for people without switches on the door - in that case there is no reliable door device with an open/close toggle because SmartThings never knows the real status of the door.

You can ignore them - if things are working for you, just carry on.

You rock! Thanks for keeping this app updated!

I figured it out. Thank you for the tip.

You rock! Thanks for the update, I appreciate it!! Just have to figure out now how to update the app. I can’t seem to login to Smartthings account.

believe you mean → login with Samsung account

IDK what I was doing but I was able to login. I think i had the wrong URL or something. Anyway I’m all set & updated!

After updating the DH and uninstalling and reinstalling, everything works as I need it to. Thanks again Brian!

I am having the same problem that you had, but I don’t understand what you did to fix it.
How do I reassign the devices to the built-in Virtual Switch? Do you mean to use ST Classic Virtual Switches?
The current Opener and Closer switches I have were created when I installed the MyQ device.
Can you explain how I reassign the switches?
Thanks in advance!

Is there an option to show the image icon as “Garage” instead of “Open-Close” sensor?

With the update, there is a new Device Handler that needs to be installed if you have GitHub integration you can just update it from the repository. Once you have the new DH installed go through the Modify Devices in the MyQ Smart app and it will build the correct switch.

Thanks Preston.
I had already done that. I installed the new MyQ virtual switch DH. I updated the MyQ Lite app.
Then I deleted my old MyQ virtual switches.
Then I went to the MyQ app in ST Classic and went through the modify devices routine to create new virtual switches.
However, the two new virtual switches still stay “ON” no matter what I do.
Is there a way to manually create the virtual switches or make sure that the virtual switches are using the right DH?
Or should I delete the MyQ device and virtual switches and try installing it all again?
Update: I deleted all the MyQ devices and re-installed the devices through the MyQ app in ST Classic. I still get the same problem. The virtual switches stay “ON” no matter what I do. The MyQ device works fine and opens and closes the garage door. But I want to be able to open and close the garage door via Alexa.

So the Opener Opener and Opener Closer switches don’t work for me still. For Alexa, I use a custom phrase routine in Alexa to open and close the garage using the garage door opener switched the app built. On and off work for me on that switch.

I had tried to use my garage doors as a lock and that worked as well but I soon went back to my custom unique phrase routines.

Hope you get it figured out. It can be frustrating for sure.

Hi Preston, Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that you got the MyQ virtual switches to work.
I am still not sure how you got it working with Alexa.
When I have Alexa “discover” devices, Alexa only finds the two virtual switches created by the MyQ Lite ST app. Alexa does not find the main “Garage Door Opener” device. All I see is the two virtual switches, which are always ON and don’t work.
So what do you mean by:

Are you saying that the virtual switches created by the MyQ ST app (Opener Opener and Opener Closer) actually work with Alexa? Mine don’t. And you said yours don’t work either.
Thanks for your help.

Well, I figured out a workaround using Webcore and the ST Virtual Device Creator in the ST Classic app.

I created a virtual switch in the Virtual Device Creator called “Garage Opener”.
Then in Webcore I created a piston that tells the MyQ Lite garage door opener to open when the “Garage Opener” virtual switch is turned on. And it also tells the MyQ Lite garage door opener to close when the “Garage Opener” virtual switch is turned off.

Since the virtual switch shows up as a device in Alexa, now I can say, “Alexa, turn on Garage Opener” to open the garage and “Alexa, turn off Garage Opener” to close the garage.

No. I agree those (opener opener and opener closer) don’t work. When I uninstalled and reinstalled, it built 2 virtual switches and a MyQGarage Door. That’s what I’m using in Alexa along with attached sensors.

I apologize for any confusion. When I migrated nothing worked until Brian did his update and then the MyQ garage door began to work in the new app. Note: only after I pushed the new device handler and reinstalled.

Hey, everyone - I just pushed an updated version of the MyQ Garage Door device handler that should work better in the new app (screenshot below).

Note that if you update your handler code in the IDE, the change may not show up right away. One thing to speed it up may be to temporarily rename the device in the IDE and then switch it back.

Unfortunately, I’m having a MUCH harder time getting something running with the no-sensor handler. The new custom DTH process is still very rough and confusing, so it’s slow going. We’ll get there eventually.

Just a note - I bought a Chamberlain CIGBU Myq Internet Gateway. I tried every single way to connect it to my network. Hours. I spent hours.

I have DSL. It doesn’t work with DSL.

Sigh. No controlled garage door for me.
