Thanks for everything!
You bet @CAL7. It was a win-win.
Hi @KeithR, are you officially stumped? Is there anything else that can be tried?
@Barrett_Richardson, I do have to admit to running out of ideas on the pool/spa mode not working. Iāve reviewed the logs carefully and the correct commands are being sent but ignored. I was looking back through this thread and was reminded that @gt1gt1 (Josh) reported the same symptoms and his logs looked very similar to yours. Mine works flawlessly on both SmartThings and Hubitat.
Josh, did you ever have any success with the pool/spa mode? Also, are you still getting those ArrayIndexOutOfBounds errors? That was about the time I went dark on this board for awhile. Finally, may I ask where you are located?
Thank-you for your patience gentlemen.
Keith
@KeithR, I wasnāt able to get it going as I got toward end of season, and because of other issues, was just enjoying the pool, lol (lost half of my season due to a bad pump). I will probably be opening up in the next 2 weeks, and will start working on things again. Is there anything you recommend for me to look at/change? @Barrett_Richardson, if you donāt mind me asking, where are you in regards to Philly? Iām in South Jersey. Curious if we can put our heads together in person (or go half on a ticket for @KeithR )
I am in King of Prussia. @KeithR how much was the sniffer?
@KeithR is this something similar to what you use: https://www.suphammer.net/ If not can you provide a link? Or are you using zsniffer from the Devkit, or did you build your own? Would you be willing to loan what you use?
@barrett, I created a whole Pentoo Linux system on a laptop and installed a ton of open source software to use a HackRF hardware USB device. The HackRF is a general purpose software defined radio device. I could not find anything else when I worked on this back in 2016. It literally took months just to be able to sniff the packets.
The suphammer.net looks incredible. I may consider buying one at some point but what I have works for me for now. Based on the description and testimonials it looks like a great option. At $99 it also seems like a bargain. Forget the plane ticket, you get this for about the price of a nice meal.
To be honest, I am out of ideas but using a sniffer should clarify what is different between the remote and ST.
I suspected as much. Thinking I will go for the suphammer option as long as you can help me make head or tales of what it is saying!
Iāll be happy to study the logs. Hopefully youāll be able to filter them down to just the 653. From the descriptions it seems it does have filters. Iām here for you!
Wow, a lot of posts and info here.
I am a refugee from the Vera PE653 integration which I gave up on several years back. I would like to get my pool automation back up and running.
I have tried reading all the posts here but there are so many I am getting lost.
So, if you donāt mind a few questions from a noob.
Is there a concise current guide or faq on how to set this up somewhere?
Where I am at:
Right now my system is very simple. 2 speed pump and my pool with no spa. I have a solar heater but I do not need to automate this.
I have Keithās DH up and running but it is only partially working. I can turn on the pump for speed 1 or 2. However, the pump status reverts to showing the speed 1 or 2 as off even though the pump is running. The temperature reading initially came up as correctly but now shows -18. ( BTW I had to use an IPad to configure the setting. As mentioned in an earlier post I could not save the setting from the Android app. )
I am unclear about a couple of things.
- do I need to setup the PE953 for this to work?
- does it matter what version the PE653 is? The remote says 31p which looks pretty old. Should I upgrade?
Seems like I am pretty close but missing a couple of steps. Any help much appreciated.
Thnx Bruce
One more thing. I plan at some point to switch to Hubitat. Would I be better off to wait get this set up in HE or is the transition from ST to HE relatively straight forward?
Advice much appreciated.
Porting to Hubitat is pretty much a do-over since you have to re-pair and reconfigure everything. Thatās not to say you wonāt get more familiar with everything. Worth it if the port wonāt be for some time, otherwise I would straight there.
You do not need to set up the 953, but the ST DTH cannot do everything the 953 can, so I still pair my 953 with the 653 (after pairing the 653 to ST), so I have both options. However, contrary to earlier posts about initial versions, the two are no longer at odds with each other. They coexist nicely.
I would definitely update the 653 to version 3.4 of their firmware. There are definitely some bugs that Intermatic has fixed along the way and I canāt really support the older versions as I do not have a way to reproduce issues.
Best of luckā¦
@Barrett_Richardson, any update for us? Still planning to order the SupHammer?
Iād be happy to Paypal a one-third share ($40), @gt1gt1, how about you?
Thanks Keith.
I got fed up with the speed of my GoControl scene controllers and other things so I decided to go ahead with the Hubitat (which is on its way now). Will get the upgrade done and see if that helps, if not I wonāt spend a lot of time on the ST but concentrate on the HE.
Cheers
Oh, itās ordered. Apparently shipping is by row boat.
Keith, this had me thinking⦠some time back, werenāt you experimenting with putting 653 programmability into the DH (setting the internal timers, etc.)?
Sorry for the delay guys, just let me know who I need to PayPal. Any help I can give on this I will.
That is awesome! And assuming it works happy to mail it to each other as needed. Row boat delivered it a few days ago from Norway and plan to invest quality time this weekend. @KeithR expect to start getting logs in the next day or two. (hopefully)
@KeithR @gt1gt1 Ok gents, we are in business. Sniffer is sniffing. First set of data is turn spa on and off with 953. Second set of data below the ------------- is using DH. Probably a little confused because the DH never registers āSpaāā before turning off. The good news is there is a difference. I havenāt studied the code to figure out what to change but I thought I would get this out to you first.
