So for a long time, so long that I can’t remember, I turned off notifications for a particular device and it worked flawlessly, but this morning all of a sudden I started getting notifications again even though the setting is still off:
What changed on the platform to cause this? I don’t want to disable the leak sensor capability in my driver because it’s used by many community members in various routines. Changing my driver could potentially stop important routines from working as expected.
Perhaps a bug in this new feature called “Always allow emergency alerts” I’ve not seen yet:
I’m having the same issues, started today. My guess is that something on the backend got changed and SmartThings is ignoring the device-level settings.
Really annoying because I have a pool water sensor set up to only send a notifications if the pool level stays low for 30+ seconds, but now, every time the wind blows, the sensor momentarily drops and I get 15 notifications as bounces up and down.
Hi. It’s been a couple of years and the driver you provided still works, however, all of a sudden today the water meter moisture detection notifications turned back on and I can’t find a way to turn only these notifications off while allowing the needed notifications like I was able to before. The moisture detection notifications keep toggling on and off, hundreds in a matter of a half hour or so. The moisture detectors themselves are suspended in the air so they are not detecting an actual moisture leak problem. Is there a way to turn off the moisture detection function or disable only these notifications without turning off all SmartThings notifications?
Hi, @johnconstantelo
We saw you have the support access open which helped me to create a report for the engineering team.
I think it would be useful having app logs about the test described below just in case they need to look at the config from that perspective:
Go to the menu where you disable the notifications for the device called Main Water Meter
Then, enable them.
Go back one page and disable the notifications again
For, @Gold_Standard_Proper and @Smeegs
Please provide the name of your devices and open support access to your account to get their IDs and compare the logs seen in the platform to make sure this is all part of the same issue.
Confirm the email account registered in the forum is the same one you use for SmartThings. If not, please share it with me over DM
Select the time period and confirm - In this step, please select “Until turned off”, once the team finishes, we’ll let you know so you can disable it again.
I’m also getting this issue from a water leak sensor notification happening on both ios26 and android 16 using both iOS and android apps (I’m using the beta version on both)
Any luck with turning off the nuisance FortrezZ moisture wet/dry detection notifications? The constant notifications fill the max SmartThings Android notifications of 24 in a matter of seconds and this hides the important SmartThings notifications I need to see. I tried to use ChatGPT to work through updating the driver myself but I haven’t had any luck.
Feel free to send a DM if you want to try to work through this together.
Updating the driver is easy, but the issue is with some type of change SmartThings made.
I have no plans right now to change the driver because the leak sensor capability is being used in routines by community members, and if i disable that it will cause routines to stop, which can have adverse effects.
BTW, the notification isn’t coming from the driver. The driver just updates the leak sensor capability from dry to wet, and visaversa.
Hi @nayelyz , I know the ST was out for the holidays, but you wouldn’t happen to have any updates?
Thanks for the information. When I turn off all notifications for the FortrezZ water meter in the SmartThings app it has no effect, notifications are still being triggered on Android. The app is ignoring the notification disabling setting. The FortrezZ continuous flow detection notifications are implemented using the SMS notifications so I have no need for FortrezZ water meter Samsung SmartThings notifications for that functionality or anything else related to the FortrezZ water meter. I still need other SmartThings notifications for other devices unrelated to the FortrezZ water meter.
For the driver, is there any way to create a copy and update only for people like me who have no use for the nuisance moisture wet/dry detection? Or can I do it locally only for my SmartThings hubs without impacting any other users?
Also, does the FortrezZ moisture detection function actually work for others? Ever since I first installed the FortrezZ water meters they immediately registered nuisance wet/dry detection even though the detector prongs are suspended in the air in dry environments.
That’s the root issue - even though notifications are disabled for the specific device, they still happen. It’s not just a problem on Android, iOS has this problem too.
This driver has worked for years without any issues, until of course ST changed something. FortrezZ’s original design (the Groovy days) also used this capability, along with their own SmartApps (which many of us converted to Routines). This is not the first time a similar problem like this with the app has happened.
I do not want to create a second version of this driver that I have to maintain and support, but I have no issue making the code available to anyone who would like to create their own version of the driver so they can customize it any way they’d like. If ST refuses to address the root cause of this problem, then I may have no choose but to make changes to my driver.
I’m not sure what you mean by “others”. If you mean other users, yes anyone using this driver has this notification issue, and yes they are potentially using this capability in Routines they have created.
Again, this isn’t a nuisance message since it’s by design to be able to use the leak capability within Routines. Because of how ST’s platform is using that same capability within Home Monitor → Leaks, users with this driver should disable this device’s specific notifications.
What do you mean by “detector prongs”? To my knowledge the FMI doesn’t have any detector prongs, just the leads to the pulse sensor on the meter, and leads to the power supply.
I just went to check out my FortrezZ water meter again. Looking closer, the detection prongs I was referring to are actually connected to the FortrezZ shutoff valve, not the water meter. I incorrectly thought these moisture detector prongs were connected to the FortrezZ water meter and I thought this was causing the moisture detection notifications. This is what prompted my question regarding if the moisture detection ever worked for others.
I bought the FortrezZ water meter and shutoff valve as a set and these are installed right next to each other so it initially looked like the white cord and moisture detection prongs were connected to the FortrezZ water meter, but they are not. Sorry for the confusion.
To clarify further, the intent from FortrezZ was to put these prongs in contact directly with the floor or within a few millimeters of the floor to detect a water leak in case a hot water heater leaked or a pipe sprung a leak, etc allowing for the option to use this detection to close the water valve if desired. I do not need this functionality so I suspended the white cord and moisture detection prongs in the air where it is dry. Since the moisture detection notification is coming from the FortrezZ water meter, and not the shutoff valve, this doesn’t appear to be related to the moisture detection notification issue.
My question related to the moisture detection is still relevant though, even if not caused by the shutoff valve prongs. If the water meter continues to send a “Moisture detected” notification followed by a “Water sensor is back to normal” notification and repeatedly toggle these 2 notifications every few seconds, over and over, even when water is not flowing, is this feature actually working? Does it work differently or better for other people?
