New Philips HUE devices

Yeah, there’s no really good app yet to run all of your HomeKit stuff. There are a couple of choices. But they added new features than iOS 9 and not all the apps Have caught up yet.

The Phillips app doesn’t have support for rooms or HomeKit Scenes or triggers. So you have to use a different app for that.

Anyway, you can definitely tell Siri to turn off all the bedroom lights, but you have to have assigned the lights to the room first using some other app.

None of them are great, but the one that has the most power is a $15 app that a lot of the reviewers are recommending. I have it. It’s not intuitive but it is for featured.

I remember you mentioning this before and had added it to my Wish List in itunes. Do you think it is worth the $15?

Yes, for the functionality, but it’s functionality that, in my opinion, should be baked into iOS. This is one of the great mysteries of HomeKit for now. Why did Apple ship it without a control app?

It should be like notifications and reminders, where iOS has the one that’s basic but does everything, and third parties make ones with fancier UIs. But instead, you have to use a third-party app just to get the basic functionality. I don’t understand it. But I was OK with paying 15 bucks, I don’t think the developer is overcharging.

The thing as you’re probably still need to read some articles to figure out what features you want to use, the app, well powerful, doesn’t really explain anything. It’s just exposes the features.

FYI - my local Best Buy had the new HUE White bulbs, but not the Dimmer kits. The bulbs were $15. Good price unless you’re looking for the bulb and Dimmer in which case the kit is cheaper ($35 vs $15+$25).

I haven’t really done a direct comparison, but the newer White bulbs seem significantly brighter than the older Lux versions…

Based on the specs, they are 33% brighter! Go up to 800 lm instead of 600. That makes a big difference to me, as we have some areas where we liked lights at about 700. And of course the price drop is really nice also. Hue Whites were the first thing on my wish list this year. LOL!

Guys, did anybody get the hue whites? And where, please? No luck for me! Local BB has no clue as to what it is.

I just got the dimmer kit from Amazon (one hue white bulb and a dimmer switch) – – they sold out again the first day. But it’s still in the box, have to wait for my roommate to open it and see how it goes. :sunglasses:

I picked up a Hue White from BB tonight. Plugged it in and turned it on and Smartthings isn’t finding it  . It’s not my week for new devices it seems.
