NEW Hub Replace Feature for SmartThings Hubs!

Thank you.

With this feature, is it possible to migrate a portion of devices only from one hub to another to spread the workload between multiple hubs? I have had a V2 hub for a long time and recently got a ST Station, but have yet to put any devices on the station since I got it. Would like to migrate some devices, but not replace the V2 hub.

No, it is all or none at this time. That would be an excellent feature if they added it, especially for people looking to add a hub and separate all the Z-Wave from Zigbee.

Thatā€™s exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Hopefully it comes sooner than later.

For those of you who have successfully replaced a hub using this tool, can you let me know if it seamlessly worked with 3rd party tools like Sharptools? Am I going to have to re-build my dashboards and rules to reference the new hub or is it a seamless migrations all around?

I havenā€™t personally tried the migration, so I canā€™t speak to it from personal experience.

From the SharpTools side of things, as long as the devices retain the same unique device IDs after the migration, you should be good. If the location ID stays the same, thereā€™s no action required. If the location ID changes and the device IDs stay the same, we have our own migration tool that can be used to update location ID references.

That being said, this has been out for several months now, and I havenā€™t had any messages about it, so perhaps no news is good news!

Thanks. Iā€™m seeing reports that individial device IDs remain the same, so Iā€™m assuming Hub Device ID stays the same. Trying to get confirmation before attempting this tonight.

Thansk for the response. Sounds hopeful!

6 posts were split to a new topic: Zwave devices wonā€™t pair even after move to new hub

Circling back here to report that my Sharptools setup (dashboards and rules) remained 100% functional with no intervention by me following my Hub Replace process.

Iā€™m new to smartthings but I got a station and alot of issues. If I get a new aeotec V3 can I use this process to transition from station to V3. I have only added a few switches and sensors so far. I also have some devices that wont add because I didnt understand the station has no support for zwave.

Welcome, yes, you could go from a Station to a V3 and this would give you Z-wave support. Whatā€™s wrong with the Station?

station has issue. switches keep saying offline . Tried factory reset but still keeps having problems.

I have seen others experiencing this issue, but so far, mine has been working without any problems.

What kind of switches, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Matter? Specific manufacturer and model info would be useful.

Hi all. Does anyone know if the Hub Replace feature somehow can be used to move Hub and completed Smartthings setup from one Samsung account to another?

Anyone getting this error

Does the process change for Multi-Hub Mesh Networks?

The app says in the How to Use info on hub replacement

  • It shouldnā€™t be set up as part of a multi-hub network.

I know this is an old topic, but I thought I would add in my experience in replacing my home hub for other peopleā€™s information. I only have 24 devices on this V2 hub including virtual devices. I have 22 drivers, though I only use or had used 10 of them. The rest are the ones loaded by Smartthings that I donā€™t use, e.g. Aqara Presence Sensor, bose, Harman Luxury, etc. The replace went smoothly. The only issues I saw were:

  1. After my old V2 hub was removed, I saw itā€™s light went purple and then it was solid green. I thought green meant online and I expected it to be blinking green which means it was factory reset. It did not appear anywhere in the app, so I just unplugged it.

  2. My link to Sharptools appeared to be working, though sometimes more delayed than normal. I refreshed the connection anyway.

  3. I noticed in the driver list that community developed drivers didnā€™t have the name of the channel below them, and there was no section at the bottom titled ā€œChannels your hub is registered toā€. So I guess even though the drivers were still loaded on my hub, the link to the channel was gone. Luckily I have another hub at my cottage that uses the same drivers, so I used the Smartthings web app to get the link to those channels so that I could re-enroll my home hub.
