from what i can tell with ecobee - the “comfort” settings that are enabled with the ecobee schedule only give you the option to have the heat/cool on or on auto - not off.
Do you have your heating/cooling on all the time based on this? doesn’t that get really expensive?
I’m not sure what the issue might be. Sorry. I haven’t looked for a way to just set it to off. Perhaps there is such a way. . . . . But it’s not an issue for me.
I have a simple system with just a boiler. I don’t have AC. {I’ll probably put in a minisplit for the bedroom later. . . .] Auto is a fan setting. I don’t have any fans. . . . My boiler kicks in when Ecobee tells it to run. The pressuretrol governs when it will shut off. The thermostat can just tell it to keep going after a cycle. This is old style steam. [I had to read The Lost Art of Steam Heating to learn how to tune the system. . . .]
In any case, could you explain your worry. I’m curious as to what the problem might be.
thanks. i’m just not used to having these systems on all the time and never off. it seems like a waste of energy to me. but you must have your setpoints set correctly so it’s not wasteful
Hi. I just purchased 3 ecobe3 lite thermostats and am wondering @yvesracine how your ecobee program is compared to out of the box dth support for ecobee with smartthings. Im waiting on my plumber to install the thermostats so they are not hooked up yet. I see today bestbuy has a half price sale on the ecobee room sensors but i read above that with your software i can use my room sensors (i have samsung & iris room sensors on my windows) to determine if a room is occupied? Thanks for your tim
The stock DTH exposes only about 10% of the ecobee APIs… I expose more than 80% of the APIs.
With My Ecobee device, you can use any ST connected temp/motion sensors to adjust the thermostat setpoints (similar to the ecobee’s follow me feature).
And, there are many complimentary smartapps at my github (for the most common use cases):
If you want to specify which ST motion/temp sensors to be used at a specific time of the day (according to your ecobee schedule), I’d recommend My Ecobee Bundle which includes the ecobeeSetZoneWIthSchedule smartapp (based on the concepts of rooms/zones/schedules).
