I ordered min from Amazon with the “free” Echo Dot. Still waiting for delivery. Is this new one the same thermostat just missing the temp sensor?

Use any ST connected sensors with better refresh rate (ex. Iris Temp/Motion Sensors 2nd gen or the SmartSense sensors)… They are about the same price and you can use my smartapps to average out the temps collected from any ST sensors (just like the ecobee3’s follow me sensors).
The ecobee remote motion sensors are overrated. They don’t detect motion in real time so they are basically useless for HA scenarios. Their temp capability is fine, but not the motion.
Looks like a decent price point for this device, particularly with the rebate.
For my specific case (a second home located where it is humid in the summer), I’m looking for a way to keep the humidity below some set point, regardless of the temperature, while we are away. Ideally, the algorithm would be something like, “keep humidity below 45% and temperature less than 90F.”
If you look at My ecobee V5 thread, I have a smartapp called MonitorAndSetEcobeeHumidity that uses
a target humidity level to trigger your humidifier/dehumidifier/HRV/ERV connected to ecobee.
Otherwise, if you want to implement some custom rule, you may want to look into Core. My Ecobee device exposes all thermostat capabilities for Core processing.
Thanks for the tips, @yvesracine. I’ll look into those references! (There is no separate dehumidifier, so controlling humidity would have to be accomplished by tweaking the temperature, I suppose. Ideally, the thermostat itself would call for “cooling” when it saw humidity rise above a limit.)

I was one of your early supporters but am I supposed to pay again for the current app? You haven’t supplied me with updated software links like you used to or given me the files to load so I was wondering if you just drop support for those from the beginning and we start over in your current pricing structure? I don’t mind if you changed but I would like to know.
UPDATE: Originally it was completely voluntary to donate to the app which I did but in order to cover ongoing development it became necessary to have mandatory fees. I think that its great SmartThings provides a platform where developers that provide a quality app can be rewarded. So all I need to do to get updated code is just pay the additional fees now in place with @yvesracine which I do agree with by the way. I am doing this now with quality developers such as @RBoy who has great device handlers and smartapps for my locks and free support
Hi, I have another follow up question. I have 2 thermostats in my house 1 AC & 1 Heat. I’m installing the Ecobee3 that I just bought to control the heat. The thermostat (and remote sensor) both read temperature to adjust the house.
If I install the “Lite” version to control my AC, will I be able to have them use each other’s temp sensors???
In the winter, will the heat thermostat check the temperature reading from the AC thermostat to adjust the house and vice/versa in the Summer?
By the way, Heat thermostat is downstairs and AC thermostat is upstairs.
ecobeeSetZoneWithSchedule (which is a paid version with many more features: zoning, alternative cooling, fan/temp adjustments based on outdoor thresholds, etc.
So, the ecobee lite (exposed through MyEcobeeDevice) and my smartapps can work together to use any ST connected sensors (not only the ecobee3’s remote sensors) and reproduce the ecobee3’s "follow me’ and “smart away” features.

[/quote]To give you an optimal answer we need to know what systems you have in the house. You mention you have two thermostats one each for heating and cooling but kind of system do you have… Do you have two separate systems one for heating one for cooling or is it just one central air system for both heating and cooling? If it is one system your ecobee3 with remote sensors should be perfect as is. If you have two systems is your cooling system refrigerated air and what part of the country are you located? I bring this up because that is typically where your energy savings will be maximized.
Two separate systems. A steam boiler in the basement for heat. (Cast iron radiators). A modern central air conditioner with the unit in my attic.
I live in Northern New Jersey, so I get a hot, humid summer and a cold winter. Yay seasons!
One of the things that I also want to do for the AC in the attic is tie it into my moisture sensor. Meaning, if I sense water outside of the drip pan, I want the AC to immediately be switched off. This will stop producing water, which will quickly limit any leaks and damage. I have a similar situation in the basement with my washing machine.
I’m trying to decide between a Ecobee 3, an Ecobee 3 Lite, and a simple z-wave programmable with no smarts. I was going to get a simple programmable, but there aren’t many in stock. Now that the lite version is available, it’s more attractive. (And I like the way it looks.) . . .
I have a two story house with a heater and no central air. I’m in New England. The lower floor is about 5-8 degrees cooler than the second story in the winter. I don’t care much about the temperature on the first floor for most of the day (on week days). But I don’t want it getting too cold down there…
When I’m using the first floor in the morning and in the evenings, I’d like it to be warmer. But I don’t want the second floor to get too hot.
I want to do something like this: Don’t let the first floor get below 55. Don’t let the second story get above 70. During most of the day, when we are up stairs working, keep the second floor at 64. If we are downstairs in the evening (or for a while on some other occasion), bring the first floor to 64 (as long as it doesn’t get above 70 upstairs).
Is this possible using your app and Ecobee 3 Lite? Is it possible using the full version Ecobee?
A worry: If I get the lite, I’ll be dependent on your app and ST for any smarts. That’s probably OK, to save $100 (- the cost of your app).
Well. It’s possible with the lite combined with my ecobeeSetZoneWithSchedule smartapp and also with the ecobee3 and its remote sensors.
However, with my smartapp and My ecobee Device, you can use any ST connected sensors that you may reuse in other HA scenarios (for lighting or else)…
On the other hand, the ecobee3 remote motion sensors are not meant to be used for real time HA scenarios as they can report occupancy at least 30 minutes after the fact. Only the ecobee3 remote sensors’ temp capabilities are reported in real time.
For me, the lite is the better option as it’s cheaper and, combined with some ST sensors (ex. SmartSense or 2nd gen. Iris motion/temp sensors) more versatile…
