Nest Secure (Alarm System) and Nest Cam IQ outdoor and Nest Hello (Doorbell Camera) and Nest Temperature Sensor and Nest x Yale Lock

To enable the public video stream (This requires enabling public streaming on each camera in the Nest web site https://home.nest.com)

You have to setup each camera to be available for public viewing in Nest first. This has to be done on the web at home.nest.com (can’t do it in the mobile app).

Once you have your cameras setup, you can add Media in ActionTiles with the Nest option and you will paste in the security code that Nest returned for public viewing.

Is the Media Tile experience any different from the other Nest Cams?

Alex, I’m not sure I understand the question.

Are you referring to the Nest option you guys added versus the old way we used to insert the entire url (backdoor approach) using the gif option?

Or are you referring to the Nest Hello versus the other Nest Cams? I can answer this later tonight as mine is being delivered today.

I enabled public, but still get ā€œcamera not availableā€ā€¦ Am I supposed to put that URL for public streaming in somewhere?

Couldn’t find it anywhere.

Nope. Once you enable the camera for public viewing, you simply copy the code it generates at the end of the url, and then you paste that code into the Nest Camera Public ID section (I purposely hid that in my screenshot:

FYI @625alex - The image above is for the Nest Hello. It is the same as other Nest Cameras with the exception that the image resolution is better and it actually dislays a larger image than other Nest cams. In the Nest app all cameras display in one size, but the Nest Hello displays much larger than the rest.

Thanks!

So, it looks like Nest Hello is the same as other cameras for AT purposes.

Yes it is identical. When adding to Nest, the Hello is listed under all camera devices. So from an AT perspective, there is absolutely no difference.

From a NST Manager / ST perspective it is lacking a Nest API for the doorbell functionality so for now it is simply a camera. If people want to integrate the Doorbell notifications with actions in ST, they can do so with IFTTT (when notification is received on phone - Android) and webCoRE / Webhooks.

Here’s an example showing how it renders differently from the other cameras in the Nest app. You can see how much larger that frame is for the Hello.

It’s probably the aspect ratio that’s different. They went with a taller frame to be able to see the whole person at the door.

Oh. So, I can’t get a picture in the ST app. Just Action tiles. Correct?

I thought you were referring to ActionTiles. Sorry, my bad.

Yes, it works fine in NST Manager. Here’s a screenshot of my Nest Hello being viewed in the SmartApp:

What does your camera show for date/time in Things?

Don’t have a date and time.

Scroll down.

If you are on Android, Force Stop ST and then go back into Things and open the device. And then scroll down

No change. The only thing I’m thinking is, I possibly didn’t give enough permissions on my API app on the nest site. Although, I did follow directions completely

When you open the device, you have to swipe up on the screen so it scrolls down

Oh! That’s quite a margin.

It’s because of the Place holder in the middle for the HTML content.

So your device is reporting correctly.

What happens when you press the play button?

Camera Unavailable. Second picture I posted recently
