What is that interface that you posted the screenshot of? I do not recognize it but can see how it could be helpful.
It is webcore. Can be very useful for advanced logic controls.
Hmm. When I setup my ST originally, I did install the ācoreā thing that I see a lot of people talking about but I have never used it. So far, my stuff is basic and I have been able to use the built-in options. Is webcore the same thing as core? I have not seen that interface so it made me think.
Same creator but much much much much much more powerful. It is also web based and is an easy learn. You can also import already made Pistons (rules) and tweak them to suit your needs. webCoRE is mostly all I use for rules.
Ok. Sorry to dig into this too far, but you guys seem to have a lot of knowledge on the subject. I am trying to figure out exactly what I have to do to my setup to install the Ring Pro. In my foyer by my front door, there are 2 boxes on the wall. One seems to be a siren I think. The other is in this picture. Looking at it more closely, I think its the bell but the contents look different than that video.
I also got my multi-meter to check the voltage. I tested it on the box from the 1st picture. I put my multimeter on 200V AC in the ACV selection and put the red lead on the white wire and the black on either of the 2 red wires that are screwed down on the bell. The reading was around 19-20. Just making sure I am not overlooking anything, but wouldnāt that mean that my transformer is putting out approx 20v?
Can you guys shed some light on this for me? I want to make sure I am looking at the right stuff.
The first 2 pictures are of the contents of the box mounted to the wall near my front door. After more reading, I would guess this is the bell. Not sure what the 2 red wires are on it, but I assume the white wire is the power. The last picture is of what I think is the transformer. It was mounted to a light in the unfinished part of my basement.

The last pic is indeed your transformer. See if there is any writing in it with the voltage output.
There are two settings with the pro for muting. You can mute the doorbell itself and you can mute alerts pushed to your phone. We personally always have the bell muted since it drives our dog nuts.
So I checked the voltage on my bell and at the transformer. Iām not sure if I could be doing something wrong, but they both read 18-19v. Do I need to change the transformer in this case? I thought someone said they the Ring Pro is ok to take up to 20v, but I want to make sure I donāt ruin it as soon as I hook it up.
Thatās fine. Purchase. Install. Conquer.
Ring needs at least 16v. You should be fine. The Ring app will tell you if there is an issue.
RingPro installed and running. I need to fine tune the mounting a little bit and I want to move the transformer to another power source (because it is currently installed on a light with a switch), but basically this thing is operational.
If I unhook the power and move it to a new circuit, will I have set it up again or will it remember my settings?
What kind of automation do you guys use with this thing? I am trying to get more creative in my home automation because as of now I just have very basic stuff. Just looking for ideas.
no reason to move the transformer unless its just not aesthetically pleasing to you. or they wired it up wrong ans itās controlled by the switch
automation wise, i have lights turn on when there is motion at night, lights turn on when the button is pressed. during Halloween, i have it kick off a whole scene where lights turn from white to colors, flash, play spooky music, etc.
I really donāt want to physically move it, but it is wired with my light so the switch turns it off. I just need it attached to a new circuit, so I will either have to move it closer to another circuit or run the wire to it and leave it where it is.
odd. just open the box up and wire it directly to the hot feed for the box.
That is one of the weirdest thing Iāve heard in regards to a doorbell. Why would they wire a transformer to a light switch? Hmmā¦the light has to be on in order for the doorbell to work? LMAO!!!
As far as HA. Hereās a couple of my Front Door Bell Pistons:
This one announces through the house that someone is at the front door.
I use this one to send notifications through SmartThings and not get spammed by the Ring App. Also, this one turns on the Porch Light based on motions and certain conditions.
Yes, the light switch has to be turned on. It was actually done by mistake. I have the fixture replaced a few years ago and the wiring was messy so the guy cleaned it up a lot. I think he must have just connected it to that circuit by mistake. Otherwise, I donāt know why. The transformer is anchored into the silver wiring box for the light, so I have to unscrew it to physically remove it. I will either move it closer to another circuit or I will just run another wire from another circuit to it. That will also be a bit confusing, having 2 wires running into the silver wiring box on a light. Either way, I have to do something.
Buy a new box and make one dedicated for the doorbell. It doesnāt have to be installed in a can light.
That is my plan.
