Lost connection to some of my wemo's

I just lost ST recognition of my Wemo Light Switch.
The wemo app was still able to control it.
In the ST app I had to remove the light switch from any smartapps and from the app overall, then reconnect to it.
Seems to be working now.

Right, I should clarify, Iā€™m not using Wemo outlets, Iā€™m using their plug-in modules. For some stuff like this I find itā€™s more versatile to use a plug-in module. That and, of course, modules are easier to set up.

I still stand by the perspective of disliking using WiFi for the connection and Belkinā€™s designs in general. Fortunately more devices are being developed by others and I hope to have the time to select a few as replacements for the WeMo and Leviton units. The Levitonā€™s have been great, they just lack a local control button.

Does anyone know of a plug-in module, usable with SmartThings V2, that:

  • Has a local control button
  • Is small enough vertically that it does not block the second outlet
  • Can be plugged in to the lower of the two outlets and still not block the upper outlet

(that last bullet is because, since outlets are way below eye level, if you have a bulky plug-in module that must plug in to the top outlet, you can;t see the bottom outlet easily)

Thanks ā€¦ Mike

Iā€™ve used the current Smartthings plug in outlet module successfully and it met your requirements.

Sorry. Same here. Iā€™m using the WeMo plug-in modules and not the hardwired in-wall outlets. I am happy with the current plug-in module from SmartThings. It is very responsive, communicates via ZigBee not WiFi and provides power draw data back to the SmartApp. I would not purchase another WeMo until they change their communication strategy.

Iā€™ve ordered one of the ST outlet modules and a DragonTech unit. Iā€™ll report how it goes.

Thanks wallemon. I couldnā€™t find a picture on SmartThings site that showed the positioning of the pins on the back, but Amazon has a picture that clearly shows the pins are near the top, and so it should ā€œhangā€ off the bottom outlet leaving the top outlet clear.

Correct. I bought one to control our Christmas tree and I remember it providing access to the other outlet. Even better, Iā€™m currently using it in my home office to control a room heater. The device is small enough to fit on my power strip without blocking too many other outlets. Although the power capacity is lower than the WeMo device, itā€™s holding up just fine.

I ordered a DragonTech PD-100 unit. Itā€™s decently constructed and does not block the top outlet when plugged into the bottom socket of a single gang outlet. Iā€™ve put it in place of a WeMo. It was pretty simple to set up, I just plugged it in and the used the smartthing app to connect a new device. Took about 30 seconds to see it. Added a smartapp to turn it on/off following a schedule and itā€™s done.

The curious thing is the circular white LED button is only lit when the outlet is off. As in, itā€™s there for you to see it when you want to turn the socket on manually. This may seem backwards to some folks. For this particular placement I donā€™t care either way.

I also ordered a smartthings outlet but it has not yet arrived. When it gets here Iā€™ll try and take some pictures comparing them all (Leviton, WeMo, ST and DragonTech).

I have the same issue with my wemos, I replaced most of them but still have one, I noticed something strange in my firewall logs the wemoā€™s DHCP lease is expiring every couple of seconds. My firewall is configured for an indefinite lease so the DHCP lease should never expire.

Make sure your router responds to IMCP ping.

I spent a whole weekend debugging this, and only found it by doing a tcpdump on the network. I had 10 WeMos, all of which stopped working around the time I re-wrote my iptables config. I assume they are pinging the router to establish connectivity for some reason (even though my WeMos are only used on the local network).
