Location not working after IOS11

Even with the new ST mobile app release to fix geofence issue on iOS 11.x.x, it did fail for missus with ST app running in foreground this evening.

Tested fine on an iphone 8 w/ ios 11, but issues persist on my wifes iphone 7 w/ ios 11.
No issues at all on my Galaxy S7.
I hope this gets fixed!

As I stated in my earlier post I know the smartthings team can always get the blame for most of the problems of the system and the app but when it’s not their fault I’ll say but when it is there fault I will say that as well. Believe when I did the test that I did, I wanted to make this a smartthings issue as hard as I could but me and my 2 daughters stayed on IOS 10 after the testing my wife and son wanted to update, so their phones are on update 11.0.2 they are the only ones having issues they are having issues with smartthings presence as well as Life360 presence me and my daughters are not things are working great for us. Apple has made some kind of small change but smartthings will have to keep updating the app to fix it.

I agree Apple changed something but for over a week now I have had the webCoRE presence app and t works so if he can make an app that works why can’t ST?

I agree with you 100%, I just don’t want to pile on them if it’s really not their fault for this snafu. I think we should pile on them for the fact of what you just said this thing with presence and the problems are just straight up ridiculous, this thing could be solved tomorrow if the smart things team wanted too they just want us to keep purchasing that damn stupid nonworking presence sensor of theirs. my cousin is running his home automation through Homeseer and he wrote an app himself that uses Bluetooth to determine presence for his family he has had it running for 2 years 8 months now, it has never once failed because of the system the only time it failed was because his daughters phone died and when she entered the house the system didn’t pick it up because it didn’t see the Bluetooth, all Smartthings has to do is turn on the damn Bluetooth chip they promised us long ago and this one issue would go away but of course you know Smartthings they can never give us anything we want until the whole community gets in an uproar.

And by the way what is this webcore presence app that you speak of could you explain more on that topic plz.

Yep, can you please elaborate on the webCoRE presence app?

Maybe this will help? I have been using it for a few weeks and it has been working very well so far.

Presence on my iPhone X with ios 11.1 has been working fine for about a week now.
It seems to be the first time it has worked consistently in the couple years that I’ve been using Smartthings.

11.1.1 was released yesterday.

SmartThings has acknowledged the iOS 11 issue and is completely redoing the backend for presence. They are running a beta test on the changes now:

I am trying to setup my wife’s iphone. The application does not even have location as an option in the settings. Her iphone does not show up as a presence sensor either. During the beta has all presence turned off for IOS devices?

In the St app on her phone, go to MarketPlace: Things: Sensors: Presence Sensors: Mobile phone

Thanks i guess i had forgotten that I did that for my own phone, silly me

I was having this issue with the presence sensing (geofencing) on my iPhone as well. The only way I could get the app to reset my presence was by quitting it and restarting it. I was on iOS 11.2.5. I checked all the settings for location checking and privacy and everything was right. Based on the commentary here, I assumed this was an iOS 11 issue, but interestingly, the geofencing was working perfectly on my wife’s iPhone. She was also running 11.2.5 on the identical model. So, I compared our phones and noticed that she had quit the SmartThings app. I hadn’t. Apparently, she does this to all the apps she’s not actively using.

I did two things. First, I went into the SmartThings app and removed and re-added the presence monitoring for my phone, which is what SmartThings support suggests. Secondly, I force quit all my apps, including SmartThings. How to force quit an iPhone app. Presence sensing seems to work now.
