A few years ago I installed Samsung mini-splits in my home, and operate them with the SmartThings app, all is well. Yesterday I installed a new mini-split, also from Samsung, that’s technically 2 models newer than the ones I had previously (although they look exactly the same.)
When I added it to SmartThings, it said I needed approval to install a plug-in for this new mini-split, no problem, installed perfectly. The odd thing is the interface screen is different than for my older mini-splits. It’s possible there are some new features, but I can’t really see any. It’s not a huge issue, I can still control it like I do the others, but why the different screens?
I tried that and after I signed in, I clicked on the new AC, it downloaded the plugin and showed me the new interface. Then I went to one of the older ones, downloaded the plugin and still showed me the old interface. Maybe they have sort of abandoned the older ones, although you’d think they would keep it the same.
I did find that if you go to the SmartThings advanced website at SmartThings. Add a little smartness to your things. you can get information about the “Presentation ID” for your device, which is the identifier of the device presentation definition that controls the UI of the device in the SmartThings app.
My older units use “DA-AC-RAC-000003” while my newer one uses “DA-AC-RAC-01001”. There does not seem to be any way to update it in the SmartThings app or int eh advanced commands section of this app. It could be that it can’t be updated.
No not yet. I finally was able to reach someone at Samsung HVAC and they said I had to talk to my installer and they would call him. They only want to talk to installers not consumers. So in order to do an update I would have to pay my HVAC installer to reach out to them to see if there’s a way to do it and then I’m sure I pay him. It’s not that big of a deal but you would think they would use the same app and zero support from Samsung on this which is very disappointing.
