iOS26. Just tried widgets for the first time with ST. I have a few light switches I want to be able to turn on and off via a widget.
When I click the light in the widget it doesn’t turn the light on, rather it opens up the ST app and opens up that specific device so I can then turn it on and off in the app.
how do I make it so I can turn the light on and off via the widget?
Mine works by assigning a manual routine to the widget. For example, turn on light with dimming at 20%. On that basis you need a routine to turn on and one to turn off and assign those to the widget.
As you hinted at, going routines would require twice as many widgets since one for on and one for off. More so, you can’t see the status of the device if you are doing routines….i.e. I would have to actually go to the room to see if the lights are on or off.
seems ridiculous that there isn’t a way to directly control the device via the widget.
If you use the toggle (turn on or turn off) option in the manual routine can turn a device both on and off with 1 widget. But there is still no status in the widget.
Good point…..seeing the status is still my ultimate goal. I’d like to do a quick glance to see what lights are on and off from the widget screen and then correct any lights necessary from the same widget.
With the Tap-to-Run Automations you do NOT get status updates in SmartThings. If is a one way integration. SmartThings can control Tuya/SmartLife, but SmartThings doesn’t know what is going on in Tuya/SmartLife.
