What SmartNightLight program are you use? The reason I as is that I wrote a program for a Night Light program and my stopped working last night too. It was at bed time so I haven’t had time to troubleshoot yet. But if you’re using my app that at least provides some more information for me to figure out what’s going on.
Chris
On a side note… if you’re a Kids in the Hall fan you probably know about this already, but if not… watch this:
So it looks like there were issues again last night. A number of people were reporting problems. I got a little worried last night because:
a.) I accidentally hit my tile that opens my garage. The garage didn’t open, but I feared it might in middle of the night when things started moving again.
b.) I have some apps that automatically turn off lights, but this failed and the lights didn’t turn out. This did not go over well with my wife who is somewhat skeptical about the benefits of HA.
Same thing happened to me. My kegerator outlet stopped functioning, and I couldn’t even operate things via the interface. Luckily my wife was already in bed and didn’t notice all the issues…as she also gets very frustrated when I’ve trained her to rely on some new feature…and then it becomes unreliable and doesn’t work everytime.
@coryds Same here, I’m glad my wife didn’t notice the failure of the system too. Keeping us nerds happy isn’t anywhere near as hard as keeping our significant others happy. But in my opinion that should be the goal. Making my house smarter is for my family, not just my fun.
@chrisb, @coryds, @bleifrei – Yes, there were some queue backup issues last night that have since been resolved. We’re still trying to get to the root cause of the queue backups which as Jeff mentioned in his earlier post on this thread we believe to be related to AWS throttling the DynamoDB data store. The initial remediations we’ve put in place have reduced the number of queue backups, but haven’t fully eliminated the problem. We’re still working with Amazon to figure out why this is happening and to figure out what we can do to keep it from happening in the future.
While this doesn’t solve the problem itself, as I mentioned in another thread (http://build.smartthings.com/forums/topic/update-1-4-1-disrupted-my-happy-home/), we’re working on an incident management / reporting system and a protocol for communicating incidents/outages/etc to the community. What this means in the short term is that we’ll get better at letting you guys know about issues when they occur and let you know when they’re resolved.
Uninstalling an app has been taking a really long time. Eventually crashing the app. Earlier tonight my Android App crashed and kept crashing in a loop such that I couldn’t even get to the home screen. I had to pull down the notification bar, go into applications and kill it.
I sent a note to support. Of course they should have gotten a couple dozen from the app as it kept crashing.
I’m past the 30 days or I think I’d be asking for my money back. From my perspective, this system isn’t ready.
Oh, finally the app crashed again and I’m in the crash loop. I’m done. I’ve uninstalled it :(!!!
I’m still having trouble with my ST…on pretty much a daily basis, some days worse than others. Lights not coming on when the should, or shutting off. Door sensors not activating. Motion sensors detecting motion - but the apps dont do anything sometimes. It’s getting very frustrating.
There’s multiple times a day where the system stops working (e.g. Light won’t go on when motion sensor or door is opened). I’ve noticed door open/close status don’t change either or other times I can’t even launch the app. Very frustrating after investing a lot of money in the system.
I have never been able to get the Good Night app to work for more than 2 days. It works perfectly for the first two, then mysteriously never works again. I don’t understand it.
imo, cloud-control HA is flawed by design! Unfortunately,I didn’t know before buying on kickstarter that ST was 100% cloud “powered”.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m having fun playing with my ST but I won’t recommend it to friends who 1) are not IT/Geek oriented, 2) need mission critical HA (lighting? -> drives my wife crazy when it doesn’t work:)
Until ST provides for local control logic; it’s going to be a hit/miss solution.
