Hub retirements (2021) V1, Nvidia Link, ADT

This is pretty disappointing. Purchased my ADT ST hub along with 10 ADT ST motion, 4 smoke, and 2 carbon monoxide sensors/detectors a year and a half ago (summer 2019).

Filled out the refund page and it claims I’m eligible for $1006 refund but I seriously doubt I’ll see that much. If it happens it will mean a profit of ~$800 since the hub was on sale at Amazon for $69, and the sensors were on clearance at BestBuy for $4.99 (motion), $9.99 (smoke), and $14.99 (carbon monoxide).

The ADT motion sensors are so much better than the regular Samsung ones.

Oh well.

I moved my GE Switches to a Ring alarm system. The integration with Alexa is way better that when they were on my Smartthings hub. Much faster response.

keep in mind that the only ADT sensor that is compatible with the other non-ADT ST/Aeotec hubs is the water leak sensor that is round.

I don’t think this experience has changed any. Need to manually exclude one at a time. It isn’t automatic when you remove the hub.

Neither, unfortunately. The devices still have to be excluded individually because the previous network’s ID is stored in each switches’ firmware. I can’t join the new network until that is cleared.

I only use the switches with Alexa to turn lights on and off and have zero routines or programming. Anyway to get these GE switches to talk to Alexa without a hub or a simplistic hub not as complicated at ST.

You still need a hub, and you need a hub with an Alexa skill.

One simple option with a nice app would be the Ring security base station. It can pair with some GE zwave models and expose them to Alexa. they recommend the ones that support NWI , but I think the others will work as well. It’s easy to return if it doesn’t. But you can’t buy the hub by itself, so you would have to also get a couple of sensors and the keypad, so I don’t know if that would be worth the cost.

Other than that, there aren’t a lot of choices. The simplest Z wave hubs don’t have an Alexa integration or they require a monthly subscription fee for their cloud services. :disappointed_relieved:

Really Samsung? I almost laughed out loud with derision at your e-mail:

all the features and more of your retired hub and is optimized to work seamlessly with all new features

Not that the display on the ADT SmartThings panel worked as one would expect, but the Aeotec Smart Hub doesn’t even have a display. How is that “all of the features and more?” And why would you expect us to throw more money at a system when your decision effectively disables all the device specific sensors we bought for them in the first place?

Seems like every time I try and delete a switch, ST comes back and says it can’t remove the switch and then does a FORCE removal which seems to work after an extended time. Just don’t know if that is resetting the switch to where it can be reused with a different hub. These switches have been installed and operating since 2015.

you can try excluding the z-wave devices from IDE.

With a Z wave device, there are two separate processes.

A reset leaves the device on the original network, but resets the parameters, like dim rate, to the factory defaults.

An “exclude“ removes the network ID which has been stored in the firmware of each individual device at the time that that device joins the network.

So you can’t just reset it. You have to exclude it so it clears out the old network ID and then it will be available to join a new network.

Fortunately, the Z wave alliance realized that you might no longer have the original hub, or you might have bought a used switch, so you can issue a “general exclude“ from any zwave hub and clear out the old network information even with a device that never talked to that hub before.

So you will need to do an exclude on each device in order for it to be able to join to the new hub.

What’s going to hurt the most is the fact that my bulbs are all Sengled or Ikea and to put them into pairing mode requires, for example, power cycling them 7 times, which means and off followed by an on toggle. I have 53 bulbs and from experience, my failure rate on triggering a reset with 7 succcessful power toggles is about 33%. So, I’m probably looking at 1000 switch flips to reset and pair all of these bulbs to a new hub. I kinda wanna puke right now.

In addition, the ADT features of the dual logo panel were able to operate locally even if the Internet was not available. That’s not true of any other smartthings hub model or of the new Aeotec hub. Just as an obvious example, with the dual logo model you could arm/disarm the system locally with either the key fob or on the keypad. There is no similar option on the Aeotec hub. So definitely not comparable in the case of those two models.

Yes, that’s exactly what I am experiencing also. We’ll see if the new one also does it or not.

On the V1 Hub, we not longer have the ZWave Tools like the newer hubs. We are supposed to use the IDE webpage to manage the ZWave devices. If I delete all the ZWave switches from the IDE webpage does that exclude them so that they can be re-added to the new hub they are offering. I literally set this up 6 years ago and forgot it. Don’t remember much.

You can exclude with the new hub, too.

This is easy now that I understand.

One of my four hubs is a ADT hub and the other three are V2.

The ADT is being retired.

This is no big deal for me since we have not used the ADT sensors or functionality for a long time. (we did not like the battery life of the motion sensors)

So… I’ll buy a new hub, remove devices from the old hub and pair them with the new hub. Not a difficult process. I have a bunch of devices, but will just do it one at a time.

The email today scared me, but now that I’m not looking at doing all my hubs in a short period of time I’m not unhappy at all.

Hardware gets retired, no big deal.

Both my devices (v1 and Link) refund total $0. Thanks Samsung.

Well, that’s a slap in the face to all of the early adopters of the platform. Glad I saw the writing on the wall and migrated (manually) to Home Assistant about 14 months ago. It was a ton of work but have been very happy with it and my home automation is now totally under my control and not reliant on any third party services that can be shut down once they’re unprofitable.

Once Samsung bought them I knew it was only a matter of time…

Use a lamp plugged into a power strip. Toggle with the power strip. Works much, much better for Sengled’s sloppy pairing setup.

In Europe, the “more than 65% discount” seems to be mode like 50%.

When I enter my discount code to shop.zwave.eu I get “Total amount without VAT 35.00€” and “Plus 19% VAT: 17.56€”

Curious how you filed claim for all those devices? When I go to the refund page, it only provides three options to select from, none of which included the sensors, just hubs.
