Devices that used to work should continue to work the same. Devices that depend upon cloud services are a different story and obviously the cloud service can be shut off. That’s why I will be hesitant to ever again buy devices that only work with someone else’s cloud service.
Will the V2 be retired as well? Is Aeotec the easier path at the moment (since it seems to be a rebranded V3?)? Is there a migration tool from V2 to aeotec? How do I access it?
yes, aeotec would be tHe recommended hardware optIon at this point.
yes, the migration tool should work from a v2 to aeotec hub since it is a rebranded v3… you would need to contact ST support in order to use it.
as for retirement of the v2 hub… doubt it will happen anytime soon since they are still releasing firmware updates for it. But there is no further production of the v2 hub it appears.
Does anyone know what version of ST is inside the Samsung Wifi Hub + ST?
Model #: WV525BWEGUS
I currently have Samsung Connect Home hubs (4 of them) and love the 2-in-one with Wifi Mesh + ST. Considering I guess the Connect Home series is going EOL, trying to figure out where to go next.
I’ve been happily using my V1 for 7 years and waiting for a migration tool to upgrade.
Since it looks like I’m going to have to rebuild from scratch anyway, I’ll probably move to Hubitat for all local control since the lag and bugginess seems to be getting worse lately.
Any good guides out there on how to migrate to hubitat with as little hassle as possible?
So this is shit news. The Aeotec Smart Home Hub has to be connected to a computer to work, I like the SmartThings as a stand-alone hub. what is the next best option for a hub that doesn’t have to be connected to a computer?
wait! where did you get this info? i believe you might be confused with another product.
The Aeotec hub that is replacing the SmartThings hub, the WASH (“ works as a smartthings hub“) model, does not have to be connected to a computer.
Aeotec does offer a couple of other Z wave hubs, including the z stick which does plug into a laptop, but those are not the ones you want and not the ones that will have the discount.
The email I have says " To redeem this offer, please visit TheSmartestHouse.com and use the unique promotion code below during checkout." but when I search there is no Hub that they mention, only the stick. what am I missing?
There is a special link to a particular landing page at that website, and you have to follow that link. I think it’s different for different people so I can’t give it to you.
Start on the FAQ page and click on the link there:
Here’s the link to use your Aeotec claim code
HAHAHA, crap, I was clicking on the actual button and it was taking me to just their main page, I wasn’t clicking on the actual link itself. email marketing could have been a bit better, but I guess i’m at fault on that one.
Thanks for clarifying.
Also note this, at least on the landing page for those with V1 hubs, I’m not sure if it’s the same for the ADT customers:
This is a special preorder offer. Your Aeotec Smart Home hub will ship as soon as it is available. We expect the first hubs to start shipping in March 2021. All orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-serve basis . [Click here]

So are most sticking with ST and getting this new Hub, or moving on to a different platform?
I have had the v1 Hub since it’s debut and been using it happily since. I have always been dreading the migration to a new Hub since I have to rebuild from scratch.
I’ve had a V1 before Samsung bought ST. I’ve been looking at switching to Hubitat for the last 3-4 months. For $35 I’ll take a shot with the Aeotec hub. If it doesn’t work, I’ll sell it on Ebay for a profit and try Hubitat. I’m thrilled with the offer to be honest. I was looking at spending at least $100 to replace my very old V1 that has been misbehaving lately and disconnecting. I have about 30 devices to migrate, mostly lights.
I’m in the same boat. Was looking for a reason to replace the V1, I guess now I have one. Though I don’t know if the disconnecting will change, sometimes I think they just push out code at a whim and it causes it to disconnect.
What sort of disconnects are you seeing from your V1? I get messages from the app multiple times a day. I’ve validated my internet is working fine during these times. I’ve also checked the app and my devices show offline. Sometimes rebooting the hub helps for a day or two. I’ve also tried relocating and swapping power supplies. Just curious b/c it has been driving me nuts. I will be replacing it with the aeotec now!
I am happy to receive the offer too. I can ditch the Link for Nvidia and have compatibility with many more sensors (IKEA) that don’t seem to work with the old firmware. I like SmartThings and also Actiontiles which I purchased last year.
I have had a V1 hub since 2014 and didn’t opt to upgrade when V2 came out because of a lack of a migration tool. Didn’t want the start over.
I only use GE 12727, 12728 and 12729 toggle switches and I have a lot of them. From past experience I always had trouble getting these to exclude from the ZWave network to allow a reinstall.
If I go with the Aeotec or some other ZWave Hub, is there a way to do a mass exclusion of all ZWave devices or will that happen automatically when the V1 ST hub is removed from the network?
I only use the switches with Alexa to turn lights on and off and have zero routines or programming. Anyway to get these GE switches to talk to Alexa without a hub or a simplistic hub not as complicated at ST.
