How do you set up Tasker to wake your tablet when you walk up to it

ok i am an idiot. i realized that my fire did not pop up the notification. it is there when i pull down the status bar or w/e it is.

Nope…not an idiot.
Let’s just say it’s Amazon’s fault lol

When using Tasker to set the screen to level 1 brightness, does everyone still clearly see the content on the screen? My Kindle Fire HD 8 doesn’t dim too far down, and the option within Tasker to ignore brightness limits (which gives a warning when selected) doesn’t do anything.

I was aiming for a near-black screen, but maybe that’s not possible.

I am able to accomplish this using a z-wave motion sensor, and subscribe to the even with SharpTool, and wake up the tablet using Secure Task plugin.

Hope it works for others who are looking for a solution.

I’d the secure task plugin part of tablet or sharp tools ?
I’ve bought tasker already but do I need to buy sharp tools?

For android users, here is the simple solution that I found works almost perfect with little effort.

Install Fully Kiosk Browser
In settings for the app turn on motion detection and any other settings you like.
Minimize and keep the browser running
Voila motion works

Only caveat is the browser needs to run and leaves a notification running in the status bar. You don’t need to use the browser but it works perfect to for Actiontiles.

I’m not keen on the Fully browser it seemed laggy when using it.

Yes you need all three tasker sharptool and secure task. (assuming you are
using an separate motion sensor)

Hi
Just starting this. I’ve read through the thread and there is a lot of fantastic information here. I wouldnt mind some help though (and i know some or all of it has been answered above)
My intent is to use an Amazon Fire running Action tiles to control smart things

  1. First up is that i want to use tasker to dim the screen on the fire (to avoid log out) and then wake on approach. Ive downloaded both tasker and motion detector and was hoping someone could send me to the right set up
  2. Ideally i would like to use Fully Kiosk which would avoid having to use the above however a critical part of my setup is to use action tiles to lauch spotify playlists (which chrome can do) by fully cant… unless of course there is a tasker work around for this
  3. If there isnt is there a tasker action sequence that will force chrome when launched into full screen?

Thanks for the help

PS; also happy to root the fire if people reckon that is still the best approach

I gave up on having the tablet turn its screen on/off automatically. The MotionDetector app consumes too many resources in that mode for the cheap tablet to handle.
Now I just have the tablet dimming down at 9pm. So it does double duty as a nightlight.

Btw, I still have motiondetector engaged. But it only kicks in if a number of other conditions are present (obvious security threat), and then it takes stills and stores them to the cloud.

I did mine a little differntly. I set the tablet to sleep after 1 minute. But it only sleeps when on battery. So I fed it thru a smart plug. Then I trigger the smart plug with a motion detector in the room. When motion detected plug comes on and tablet comes out of sleep mode. When motion stops for about a minute, plug turns off and 1 minute later goes to sleep. I used webcore for the logic. Works great.

To bring back this topic once more, Ive got the integration working nicely on my Kindle Fire 7, except for waking up the tablet. Tasker gets very unhappy at calling the unlock command (and they seem to actively discourage it), hence leaving just screen on commands available (and needing to do the swipe thing). Ive got it bleeping and launching an app etc after getting motion on another sensor, but the app bits only work after you unlock/swipe the screen…

Has anybody managed to get this working without dimming the screen? Or is that now the only way to do it? Sadly I cant root my Kindle as it is already past the version where you can root, hence I guess if the unlock option is not possible I will give the dimming a go.

As a side note I wonder what the increase in power consumption is as a result of keeping the screen on…

I struggle with the wake screen on my old nexus tablets.
I’ve got tasker setup with Sharptools and secure settings and it turns the displays off great when I run the goodnight routine.
But it’s set up to turn the display on when the good morning routine triggers but it just never does , even though I’ve tested the same settings on my android phone and it works.
I’ve not looked into it for a while though.

Using a Fire 8 running ActionTiles with Fully, Lannnouncer and Ring. I’m unable to get Tasker to ā€œswipeā€ the Kindle Fire’s lock screen, and also unable to open the Ring app when there is a Ring motion or door bell notification. Simple Tasker profiles execute, like putting out a notifications when the screen is unlocked, but the app logs say I’ve never successfully had Tasker respond to a device notification.

The dim screen is brighter than I want in the bedroom area, so using Fully the device is allowed to sleep between midnight and 7AM. Then have to swipe the lock screen to restore the ActionTile display. Unsuccessfully tried No Lock app and various Tasker Profile setups to auto clear the Lock Screen

I also want to immediately switch to the Ring app when there is doorbell motion or a ring. Added plugins: AutoNotification, authorized Tasker and AutoNotification for ā€œservicesā€, no joy.

Suggestions for either of these issues appreciated.

I am in the process of working on this also. I currently have a Samsung Tablet working by following these directions: click here I am now working on a second Samsung. Saving my Fire 8 for last as I figure it is going to give me the most issues. I do have the first Samsung working great.

:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:
Sheer Joy! It works on my 2017 Fire 8. Ring notification swaps to Ring App, one minute later back to the Fully Action Tile screen. Perfect!

So are you having any trouble with your lock screen?

Still there, have to clear it once a day. You have a solution for it?

Was going to see what is available in Automateit.

Have not got that far… just figured it was going to be an issue…

Set a Trigger for Screen on, but Action: Enable / Disable Screen Lock Action gives error ā€œRequired Permission Not Grantedā€. Not sure if this is a Fire device issue or I need to upgrade to the Pro version?

Answering my own question:
The advanced features included in this (Pro) version are:

  • Enable/Disable Screen Lock Action - Enables or disables your screen lock slide/pattern/password/pin

Will update to Pro and try later.
