I have used a SmartThings for years, I just ditched my S8 for a S9+ and saw that the SmartThings app was already installed and in the App Store the one I used to use was called SmartThings classic. The new one seems okay other than missing half of the features of the old one, but when I go to my door locks I can’t figure out how to change the codes or view them. Samsung says this new app is much better than the old one so I would find it hard to believe that they would remove features. Am I looking in the wrong place?
You can’t. That’s one of the reasons they are recommending using the Classic app still. You can use both.
Great thanks. Happy to see they are advising that vs pushing just the new app!
The problem is the old app does not support the new hub. Spent over 1 hour yesterday on the phone with smart things only to find out the new hub wont do door code changes. Have to return it and get something else.
The old app works fine with the new hub. There are some different features, and in particular, each of the two apps has a feature called “smart home monitor” but they are completely independent of each other, they just happen to have the same name.
You have to use the new app to set up the new hub, but after that you can use the old app and many people do for now.
That said, the fact that Samsung has stated that the old app will be going away eventually does mean that I personally wouldn’t set up a new system today that depended on features of the old app. So I think you made the right choice, but I did just want to mention the options.
