Home Integration: Can I build an IR blaster network off ST hub?

I’m currently looking into linking my IR/entertainment devices (TV, cable box, roku, etc.) together with my current smart home setup. Specifically, limiting my remotes to one remote with a voice control option through Alexa. I’ve been looking at the Logitech Harmony Elite w/ hub but it is pricey. In an effort to cut this price down and further customize the control to other rooms, I was wondering if my ST hub can substitute for the harmony hub while using the newest elite remote? Furthermore, can an IR blaster network be connected/built off of my ST hub? If so, any suggestions on my best option(s)?

Your best option is the Harmony.

I know you said the Elite is expensive… But look at it this way.

So, while you COULD develop your own smart device that has IR blasters and all the logic and code and things to make this work, after all the RPis and the blasters and the custom code to make them work and the custom device handlers and the hours of research to locate the correct IR codes and then the interface and all the hours testing and… (I think you see my point)

Nobody has developed anything that remotely smells like what you’re talking about (outside hobbyists to see if they CAN basically, because Harmony has been there and done that all for 99$ US or less (basic package hub only) then it presents the whole bit to SmartThings for automation.

You can have my two harmony remotes when you pry them from my cold dead hands…

There are several different ways to do this depending on the details of what you want to accomplish and your own technical background.

Have you had a chance to look at the IR control FAQ yet? It details five or six different methods and compares and contrasts them. :sunglasses:
