Harmony Hub w/Remote ~ Delays? - RESOLVED

I’ll check the voltage on the battery tonight.

I know it’s not the press/long press of the button and it is isn’t how I press it.

It does it on every button, but ONLY on the very first time it is used after sitting unused for a while.

I can press the volume button… Nothing. Then count to four and everything works fine.

I need to find the rtf frequency that it’s using and start looking for interference. I’ve got a whole lot of wireless in my house.

I thought the elite was freezing until I realized it spoke to the hub via RF but the hub then talked to the components thru Bluetooth or IR. My cable box has RF and IR , the box came with an RF remote so I still use that a lot when watching tv but the receiver only has IR. So I ran an IR blaster over by the cable box and the hub is near my receiver so it takes care of that so when using the cable remote I have to point it at the receiver but not the cable box but with the elite I don’t need line of sight for either.

I had similar issues when controlling devices in my media cabinet. Once I started using the IR transmitters and placed them in the correct locations all my issues were resolved. At first I didn’t believe it would fix the issue because it would work fine after the initial delay, but for some reason, everything works consistently when the transmitters are used. If the batteries don’t fix, try using the included IR Transmitters. Trust me, it’s worth a shot.

I’ve had that set up from the beginning.

I have a bdi entertainment center with the hub in the right side and the cable box on the left both behind smoked glass and what I thought was a delay was actually the hubs IR signal somehow making intermittent connection to the box. I know that doesn’t help with the op’s problem as he already has the blasters set up but they did the trick for me.

Standard glass can be troublesome for IR signals. Move one of the ir blasters from the hub to that cabinet if you aren’t using them elsewhere.

sure sounds like a faulty remote to me, I have 2 of the exact model you posted and I don’t see that behavior.

I’m going to do some testing tonight. I didn’t have a chance yesterday.

I also have this remote, plus the touch remote as well. With the RF Remote (no display) i have instant results, even for first press. The touch remote however goes to sleep and has a delay of 1-2 seconds every time it wakes up.

I checked with my other remote, it is a few years old and does not have the smart home features. Seems to be immediate with the button presses.

Wonder if they changes something with the latest gen… One of mine is about 10 months old (refurbed) and the other is pushing 5 years(?).

I have the exact same problem… It has about a 5 second delay for the first button press made after an extended period of inactivity (by inactivity I mean inactivity with the remote. If I’m watching a movie and don’t touch the remote for a while then try to push a button the delay is there again). Almost like it has to wake-up either the hub or the remote. It just started a couple weeks ago for me after an update (Could be a coincidence). Before that it was instantaneous. Did you have any success with your tests?

No luck at all. It had to be the update. My harmony one touch screen is now crap because of an update.

I’m just learning to live with it.

Update!

Over a few days in the past week my remote delays grew steadily worse, to the point that a couple of days ago the remote competent stopped working.

… at least I thought it had stopped.

After some troubleshooting I realized that the remote had slowly stopped working with the dish network box. Everything else was working just fine; bluray, bose, tv… all worked great.

So, I deleted the dish box from the entire system. I then just added it back and put it back into the activities.

Now, the thing works perfectly. Zero delays. A button press results in instant actions in the system.

Oh, and that’s the report from the wife!

So, just a thought… that seemed to be my issue and I hope this helps others!

It does that with my Moto STB too, once in a while. Harmony support blamed it on me, because I cut the power to the box, every night. But I can count it on one hand how many times it happened in 2 years…So the truth is, they don’t know why it happens. Sometimes I don’t do anything and the box starts working on its own. Sometimes I need to readd…

Interesting cause I cut power to mine every night as well.

That could be it . I’ve never had the issue and my box is always powered.

I’ve been having a lot of slowness with my Harmony Elite when it’s been sitting idle for a bit. It does seem to go into some kind of sleep mode. Picking it up and pushing a button I get no response for a few seconds, then the command finally sends. Does not seem to matter what device I’m controlling or what activity mode it’s in.

Sometimes it even seems to build up a buffer of all button press attempts while it’s waking up, and then after a few seconds they all fire.

Seems like very bad product design, and I’ve yet to find a way around it. Even with all delay settings set to 0 I notice it’s a bit slower than the original device remotes.

Same problem but seems random, ie not related to idle. Sometimes I’ll try to start an activity 3 times, finally after like a minute all 3 commands go through. Only seems to happen with power on/off or changing sources, never with volume play/pause etc. It only started in last few months after more than a year of use.

I’ll try changing battery but I seem to recall I did that already.

I have had this remote for years and had done a recent firmware update and it started doing this

My remote has been doing the same thing. The delay will store the buttons I pressed then 20 seconds later they all go through. I changed the battery and still happens. When it doesn’t do this the remote is flawless.
