Harmony Home Control

@Dlee Like I posted above, they should remove it from their “supported devices list” because its clearly not working, I’m getting pretty fed up. I agree its pretty illegal as it is false advertisement and they are making money off it. No one from ST’s has even commented or giving any sort of timetable, this is turning into a pretty huge joke.

Ironically, I said that things were working perfect from Logitech to ST, and since I posted that, twice my kitchen lights came on and in my ST logs, it says Logitech Harmony Connect initiated it. I have no smart apps or Logitech Activities turning on my kitchen lights, so this is bizarre…

Maybe you’ve been hacked.

@Mbhforum I would seriously suggest getting your house blessed as there are too many instances of lights turning on/off, garage doors opening/closing, people leaving/arriving in this community of it’s own. These paranormal activities are not to be taken lightly. Some phenomenon cannot be explained. And I am serious. My wife makes me sleep on her side of the bed since the bedside lamp on her side turned on/off couple of times of its own at night. In this case it was not ST as its regular table lamp not connected to ST.

Received this response from Smart Things support
"I’m afraid there’s still no update to report, sorry. We’re moving the integration from half Cloud/half LAN to 100% Cloud. As soon as the integration is completed, tested, and released I’ll send you a message to let you know."

So seems they are still working on this.

And I got today from LT, basically saying ST is on the hook:

I have just received a reply from the appropriate team about the integration issue between Harmony & SmartThings. We are working with the SmartThings team to update the SmartThings Labs integration. We hope to have this updated integration completed as soon as possible.

I’m afraid there is no ETA available, but we have requested SmartThings to get this done at the earliest

Hi All,

As mentioned by a few others, we have recognized that Logitech’s firmware upgrade to v4.2.48 is not currently working for a portion of the SmartThings|Logitech Integration.
This integration affects SmartThings’ ability to trigger Logitech Harmony Activities. You should still be able to interface with ST devices through the Harmony remote and mobile app.

More technically…
Our current integration is using both a LAN integration and Cloud-to-Cloud. The LAN integration is for ST to trigger activities to Harmony Activities and the Cloud-to-Cloud Integration is for Harmony to control ST devices.
Moving forward we will be overhauling the LAN portion of the integration. This shouldn’t have any affect on the capabilities of the integration however it may increase the reliability of the integration (no issues with harmony hub discovery for instance).

It will take us some time to rewrite the integration and go through mutual testing between SmartThings and Logitech.
I will continue to up you all as we progress in this. Can’t promise it, but I’ll also see if we can run a beta to provide early access to the new integration (there’s some technical parts to support a beta, so we’ll need to figure that out too).
We hope this integration will over a better overall experience between Harmony and SmartThings, and much more reliable.

Thank you everybody.

Thank you for the update. I just got a Harmony Home Hub tonight! I am setting it up and came across this issue. Good or bad timing? Hopefully the SmartThings team can fix this soon.

Kindly,

Elliott

Well if you’re just planning on controlling ST devices from your Harmony remote, then it should work fine (it does for me). However, what seems to be the main issue is controlling Harmony activities/devices from a trigger within ST.

I’m more concerned with the firmware update Logitech has talked about that will allow their Smart Control hubs the ability to integrate with ST like their Home Control hubs already do. @thegibertchan - any update on this? Perhaps it is part of what’s getting worked out along with the other issue of controlling Harmony things using ST?

Also, I never thought to look before, but regarding the issue of triggering Harmony activities using events in ST there’s a workaround if you have an Android phone. Download Tasker, download SharpTools, download Harmony Tasker Plug-In, and then you’ll be able to use SmartThings events to trigger Harmony activities with Tasker as the middle-man. Voilà!

You can also use IFTTT as a middle man via a virtual switch

We’re actively working on it right now. This transition to their cloud API does give us the ability to have greater control over Harmony devices; although it’s not completely unlocked yet, so we’ll targeting to maintain our current functionality with just a new communication method.

Any ETA on when this will be released ?
I bought two Harmony Hubs with my ST hub because it said they were compatible. Would like to get them working

You’ll be able to take advantage of being able to control ST devices from your harmony remote/app, but we need to re-enable to integration allow you to start harmony activities using various ST devices. We just started the work and it’ll have to go through mutual review with Logitech so it won’t be in the coming weeks.

I have no use at all to control my devices with my remote. I bought the Harmony hubs so I could control my sounds system with my ST hub. I have not lights and not plugs etc. So I have no devices I can control with my Harmony…Unless I want to open my garage while watching TV

I was told by support a month ago when I emailed about this issue that it was a known issue and would be released in a “few weeks”. Now you are saying it WON’T be in the coming weeks ! Any chance of a beta copy ?

You should really take “Harmony Hub” off the “Works with SmartThings” list
http://www.smartthings.com/product/works-with-smartthings/
At least add a note about the known issue.

@Ron, just a heads up on what the integration will allow you to do.
I’m one of the few that has a complete working integration, no one seems to know why, but it is what it is.

Anyway, what ST is able to control via Harmony are activities, not individual devices. These would be the activities that you have setup on your remote, and an activity that mirrors the main off button on the remote (powerOff)
The integration does not allow control of individual devices, or device functions within those activities.
In other words, all the buttons on your remote aren’t available in ST.
So you get poweroff, watch TV, listen to music, watch movie etc…
There is no volume up/down, change channel etc.
Just didn’t want you to be super disappointed again after they get this issue sorted out.

Activity entries have the ability to change the volume up or down by a click but you don’t know what the starting point was so its basically useless. It would be nice if Harmony provided an absolute way to set the volume that was device dependent, whether that be “-12” on my Denon receiver or “30%” on my Sonos soundbar.

At least with Roku I can tell the Harmony Activity which app to launch.

would be nice, however such a means does not exist when controlling devices via IR.
You can blame the equipment manufactures for continuing to provide, and in many cases only provide control via IR. Serial and Ethernet interfaces usually provide methods for setting absolute volumes.
And unfortunately it will likely be years if ever before Logitech offers you options for other control means for your equipment that offers this, and you can blame them for that situation.

As an example, my Onkyo Pro pre/pro is going on 7 years old now, you can control every function of that device over IR, ethernet and serial, and yet Logitech to this day still only supports IR.

I should be able to choose which control interface I would like to use if the device has multiple methods.
OK, rant over…

Thanks @Mike_Maxwell for setting those expectations.

I’ll see if we can a beta out for those who are in limbo. From talking to our engineer, we may be able to get it out quicker but it’ll still have to go through certification and mutual review (which often is just as long as development). I just didn’t want to promise you a shorter timeframe and not be able to deliver because it’s on hold because of review. I rather surprise you with a quicker turn around if we can get it to happen

Thanks, That is actually all I want. I want to be able to turn music on when I arrive home, move to another room etc. Not sure if it will work out since I can imagine my wife watching TV and I arrive home and the system switches to music…that might be a problem

But I think I can at least use it in my office when I enter the room it can start music, that would be nice. I may want to do some other tricks but not sure yet.

How do you usually us it ?

Cool, That would be great !
