I have acquired a couple of Google Nest Cameras and managed to configure them on the Google Home App. Through service connection I have the cameras working on Smartthings.
Unlike my Aeotec 360 the Google Nest cameras don’t have the small “button” on the widget so that I can quickly turn then on/off, nor it is possible to do so through routines/scenes. This is just an example:
I can, however, turn them on/off on the Google Home app.
My inside cameras are both Aeotec, and both Google cameras I want to place outside.
What I am trying to accomplish is to take advantage of the “Home Monitor” service and I wanted to create routines to:
When state is Disarm Home Monitor: Turn off all the cameras
When state is Arm (inside): Connect outside cameras
When state is Arm (outside): Connect all cameras.
Edit: I do understand the difference is that the Aeotec cameras are fully managed by my Hub/Smartthings, and the Google Cameras are linked via service. Also, I have all switches turned on at nestservices.google.com. If anyone managed to connect the Nest cameras directly to Smartthings, that would be cool too, though I doubt that is possible.
Hopefully this makes sense and someone already went through it. Thanks in advance.
I believe that Google is responsible for the integration with ST. I think that they would have to modify the integration to expose these elements in the mobile app presentation.
I do own and have Google Nest Cameras integrated with Smartthings too, and it’s been a while having that integration and they have never allowed to do anything with the cameras (on/off switch or similar), you just can see live feed and add them to routines for motion detection only
Quick update. Although it’s not the optimal solution, I found a way to get things done…
Smartthings and Google Home are connected both ways. Smartthings has the Home Monitor, if I set “Arm away” it will connect my Aeotec 360 cameras through a Smartthings automation.
While that on the Google Home app there is an automation that when the Aeotec cameras are turned on, the Nest cameras are turned on as well… I will experiment this further but so far, I found this way of turning all cameras on with just one action: Home Monitor
For some reason I couldn’t create the automation on Google Home using the UI, but a simple Script did work.
I will update this once I finish the setup and let you guys know.
