Get ready to make the switch!

@blake.arnold first, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to the concerns on this topic. It has been awhile since we have seen this kind of involvement and conversation from staff about the future.

Since you are looking for feedback and suggestions, one of the things that has been bothering me lately is the handling of devices with button capabilities; specifically devices with multiple buttons like the Osram/Sylvania Lightify Smart Dimming Switch. Currently, the only way i can setup any automations (if i want the two buttons to have different behavior) appears to be by using the smart lighting app or webcore. For some reason, automations don’t let me choose button number when setting up button device triggers.

Perhaps related, the capability seems a little confused as there is support for button number as well as apparently support for “up*” and “down*” as button state (i think i can theoretically have an event for “button #2 down_hold” that is different from “button #2 held”), but the “ZigBee Button” DTH used by the lightify dimmer doesn’t appear to support up and down states for use by automations either (and this still wouldn’t deal with other devices with more than 2 or 3 buttons). It isn’t clear what the intent with this is.

@blake.arnold can Lightning Groups be added to Automations’ Action? Also when I create group of exactly same light bulbs, I do expect to all capabilities be carried over to the group. For example temperature dimming lights, when grouped, don’t have Temperature slider, or any of “Quick Controls”

I am relatively new but I could see that. Before investing in products of any brand I always make a point of checking the website for support articles, and making sure there is an active forum with participation by developers. It was what I found here along with the fully fleshed out technical help articles that led me to using SmartThings in the first place. And I am no bootlicker by nature, you should see my criticisms of other services I have become disappointed with!!

I bought a new Samsung tab 8 with android 9. I can’t load The new version on ST. It say it is not compatible. Is there a time frame to fix this?

I think one of the keys here is that as it stands when creating an automation in the app - ‘and turn off again’ is suggested as an action when you set it up using a scene rather than individual controls.
The app UI should not let you select this if its not something it can do
(and I agree that a scene is a point in time action to set a bunch of stuff to specific states and therefore an off to reverse it doesn’t really make sense)

You missed @erocm1231 Aeon MultiSensor 6 to be local
Employ @RBoy to handle your z-wave locks locally

Currently I’m at 228 devices but only 64 (28%) are local
If official Hue gets room/zone/scene support so I can dump my Hue B Smart that would be a extra 41 devices made local (18%)
Upgrade official Aeon MultiSensor 6 would get an extra 9 local (4%)

Make a local DTH of the following or correct me if there now is

  • Simulated/Settable Motion Sensor
  • Simulated/Settable Temperature Sensor Github Code
  • Simulated/Settable Lux Sensor Code
  • Momentary Button (Alexa Compatible)
  • @erocm1231 Fibaro Single Switch 2 FGS-213 & Double Switch 2 FGS-223

This would be another 33 devices (14.4%) to local

So Hue, MultiSensor 6 & the above Simulated/Settable devices would increase my local devices to 147 which is 36.4% increase for a 64.5% total

I also have 26 (11.4%) Xiaomi devices now I’m fine with these in the cloud there mainly on windows, some inside doors and a few buttons. Once local WebCoRE is here and there has been some movement for more local DTHs I would be more happy to invest to remove these to increase the amount of pistons localing running

Other Information
I believe I have 43 (18.8%) true C2C devices these include Ring, Logitech, Nest, Life360 & Echo Speaks

Same issue here using the Aeon Minimote or Remotec Scene Master. Would love to code these remotes as Automations, but instead, I have to implement in WebCoRE.

@blake.arnold thanks for taking the time to go through this and listen. One thing that you didn’t list in your encapsulation of the thread is the ability to trigger Scenes from WebCoRE.

In the classic app, many of us would use Routines that could be triggered or listened for from WebCoRE to either enable scenes or react to scenes being enabled manually.

The new app allow you to manually enable a scene (as you would Routines in the classic app), but I cannot listen for them in WebCoRE, nor can I trigger them from my pistons.

Others in this thread asked for the ability to trigger Automations from WebcCoRE, but I think it’s actually triggering Scenes that would be the appropriate approach. Today, this is accomplished in the new app by creating a bunch of extra Virtual Switches that WebCoRE can turn on/off and “listen to” for events. Not elegant at all.

Same here with multisensor 6 being made to be local

+1 for Xiaomi Aqara devices. They are so cheap and so many use them, an official DTH for local control would be very welcome.

Has anyone experienced STHM just completely removing itself? I’ve had it happen twice now. The most recent time, I had to configure all of my sensors, actions, and notifications all over again, but the Automations/Scene controls all stayed in tact.

Edit: guess I’m not the only one

@blake.arnold Speaking of Lightning Groups… Currently there is no way adjust the color of color lights within the group as you can only adjust the dimmer level.

for example(with grouped Sengled RGBW Bulbs):

Is adjusting the color & temperature of Lighting Groups something that is in the works? If not its a feature that sorely needed in the new Smartthings app. Other platforms can already do this.

If you create an automation, you can pick your own color temperature which I like. But if you create that same rule in smart lighting, you only have a limited option of color temperatures to choose from.

Yeah just happened to me STHM just disappeared. Had to re”add” the smart app and set it all up again.

Hoping the automations stayed

When will us deadly users in other countries get access to half of the stuff mentioned here?
Please make it happen

When might Notify Me When be available in the new app? It’s about the only reason I still have the old app installed. I can create a new Notify Me When automation in the old app and see it in the new app… just cant seem to create them in the new app.

Also wanted to say thanks to @blake.arnold for his great and prompt responses… it is refreshing to see some authoritative interaction in this community… please try to keep it up through the transition!

I have the same issue. In my case, I tracked it down to having the network threat protection active on my eero mesh router. Turning the eero Secure+ feature off fixes things for me (as does turning WiFi off and running off my cellular connection).

The Classic app still accesses SmartApps just fine.

You could do this with a SharpTools.io rule. I have my locks and garage doors set to notify me if I leave them insecure for more than 30 minutes (and another rule that runs at 9 PM and sends me a notice if anything is left unsecured).

You could do this with a SharpTools.io rule as well.

Pretty sure that’s been replace in Automation. If (whatever happens) Then Notify (or maybe it’s called something else as I don’t have the new app on my phone right now to look). Either way, it’s in there.
