Frustrated by the state of things

@Ron @bravenel

Reading the posts about the garage door got me wondering about mine… for some reason it works great and does everything I want it to do… including respond to Rule Machine, Alexa, and not open when told to close or none of that silliness.

I have a Genie garage door opener and I’m using a NuTone Z-wave Garage Door Opener.
The device type is not a stock one, I think. I honestly do not remember where I found this one.
But this is it:

This is what it looks like in the app:

At any time in the ST app I can press one of momentary buttons and the door will either open or close. Pressing the same button again (ex: open when the door is already open) does not cause the door to trigger again. It does nothing.

The Alexa app sees the door as a “SmartThings: Device” ( I have no idea what that means ).

All of this is because someone said that Rule Machine has no garage door capability. But, it does. I just use the “Switch” capability and choose the “Garage Door” switch.

So, I created this rule to check it out and see what happens. The rule uses the “Switch” labeled in the picture above. While the switch is on the door opens. When the switch is off, the door closes.

All of this is just to let others know that there is a garage door capability built in, sort of. I guess it matters on the door opener, the device type and all that jazz…

Edit:
This is the github link to where I got the device code.

And this is the link to the thread that I found all of this in when I installed the door opener:
