Firestick or Nvidia shield best integration with ST?

Been waiting for the Echo to be able to control my Firestick in the UK (will it happen)?

i have just seen that the new Shield has a ST link (UK available ???)but has Google assistant installed , does this mean i will have to ditch my echos if i go down the Shield route ???
