External Siren? (UK)

Hi, I’m new to being smart but I was looking for a solar smart alarm siren. I found this on amazon:
SMART-I Wireless Outdoor Solar Siren https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XBKW4ZF/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_uoXLzbY00WY5N

It looks like it works on the UK Z wave frequency…surely it’s not that easy?

There is no such thing as this… Fortrezz sirens are indoor.

Fortrezz Z-Wave outdoor Siren / strobe (SSA3)

Fortrezz Outdoor

Shame that SSA3 is not available in the UK. It’s exactly what we need! I cannot understand why we don’t have a reasonably-priced z-wave (or zigbee) exterior siren available.

Hi Sam,

This sounds great. Can you imagine a way to wire this a little differently such as to place a stand-alone z-wave or zigbee of some kind within the unit, between the 12v- and switched negative for the strobe? That way a) the unit will always have power so the battery backup will work and b) we can use a regular plug. Also, it means the siren could still sound on power cut provided the internet router and Smartthings hub are on UPS…

In short, could we use a Fibaro RGBW controller and would you know how to wire it and would it work? 12v dc switch.

Any thoughts @anon36505037?

Cheers, Rob

I have recently changed the wiring in the siren to make it a bit better.

I have wired a Sonoff Wifi Switch to a 12v DC transformer and then to the triggers on the bellbox. I short the connection between strobe and bell triggers so that they both come on when the switch is activated.

I also wired before the switch, a second 12v DC transformer that is always on, this is wired to the 12v + and - on the bell box. Doing this keeps the bell battery charged, the LED lights are always on and if anyone tries to tamper with the bell box the siren is activated from the bell battery. If the power is cut, the siren will activate.

The DC transformers were only £2-3 on eBay and the Sonoff switch was about £6-7 on eBay. The sonoff switches require a bit of modification to work with SmartThings but there are some very good guides on here and on you tube that show you how to do it.

This seems to be a more complete solution than my previous suggestions. Hope this hep

Guys, I’ve bought the Popp wireless solar siren. I can’t seem to get any visibility of it.

For anyone who has it can you please advise on how you pair??

So it seems to be charged ok, when I flick the power switch towards the z-wave button all the lights flash once to show it’s on. I then click to add a new device in Smartthings app and then press the z-wave button once on the Popp siren to start pairing. Nothing. I never see the device. Do I need some additional z-wave hub on the smarthings hub??? I’ve got the v2 Smartthings hub.

Appreciate the help in advance

Oli

I’m pretty sure you just flick the switch to on (the siren will sound, so press the button once to silence it), then press and hold down the button for about 5 seconds until the LEDs flash. This puts it in inclusion mode and then you can search for new things in ST and it should find it.

Sorted the problem.

I hadn’t removed the wall mount bracket when testing the Siren. The instructions indicate to do this but doesn’t tell you why. Basically with the bracket in place you cannot manually induce inclusion/exclusion mode. This is so that when it’s on the wall outside, if someone’s trying to turn it off at the device you can’t.

As soon as it was removed I could find the device in Smartthings and add. One thing I would point out, it initially gets configured as a Z-wave siren. I can see battery power and easily test the siren. I’ve added it to the Smart Home monitor as a Siren and it successfully went off when I tested it. Is there a reason why some people are re-configuring as Aeon Siren?

Hi,

Has anyone tried pairing the Smart-i wireless solar external alarm, successfully? It uses the 868 MHz wireless transmission frequency, which looks to be in the Z-wave frequency.
