Experience with LEDEPLY MR16 Zigbee smart bulbs

I purchased a pair of LEDEPLY MR16 Zigbee smart bulbs for outdoor spotlights from Amazon ( Zigbee MR16 LED Smart Bulb, Hub Required, Compatible with Phi*Lip*s Hu*e*, Alexa, Google, & ConBee, 5W =50W, GU5.3, Dimmable, AC/DC 12V, Color Changing & Tunable White, 2-Pack - Amazon.com ). I’m posting my experience in case anyone else tries this bulb.

In order to connect with SmartThings, I intially followed the steps outlined in the User Manual that comes with the bulbs. The User Manual says to choose “Smart Life” when adding a new device. The response of the SmartThings app is different from what is pictured in the User Manual. The SmartThing app tries to get you to connect with the Smart Life universe. This may work if you have a Smart Life hub, but I do not.

Instead, the following is how I got it to work. For initial pairing I suggest you locate the bulb close to the Smarthings hub. In the SmartThings app:

  1. Click on the “+” in the upper right and choose “Add device”.
  2. Click on the “Add” button under “Partner devices”
  3. Near the top, click on “SmartThings”.
  4. Click on “Lighting”.
  5. Click on “Smart Bulb”. May have to wait a few seconds while drivers are downloaded. Should now be on the “Verify your device” screen where you can scan a barcode (no barcode came with these bulbs).
  6. Click on “Skip this step”. A confirmation screen appears.
  7. Click on “Skip”. The “prepare your device” screen appears.
  8. Following the “factory Reset” procedure outlined in the User Manual, Switch the power on the bulb: ON for 1 second, off for 2 seconds, ON for 1 second, off for 2 seconds, and then on. The bulb should flash a couple of times and then the app should say that it found the bulb within a few seconds. Once paired, the bulb will get a device name of “TS0505B Tuya Bulb”.
  9. If unable to pair, do the power cycle procedure again.
  10. You should now be able to control the light settings from the SmartThings app.
