The health_check function is only removed on battery-powered devices, where it’s useless.
On devices powered by AC or DC, it’s still useful for maintaining the ZigBee network and online status when there are many devices far apart and messages may be missed. The devices will respond, and it’s easier to avoid an offline state. This doesn’t cause any extra work for the hub unless the devices are truly disconnected, have a power outage, etc. It works like a charm!Native commands and attributes, just like in the stock version, only work for devices that always use the default handlers, even if they’re in the same driver. There will always be devices that don’t use this native function.
It doesn’t matter, since the use of this native function on many devices has freed up a lot of processing time for the Hub, and all responses, both native and custom, work faster.With this update, all battery-powered devices, both ZigBee and ZWave, in my driver now have three preferences:
Battery model, quantity, and a 100-character text field for entering useful data, change date, brand, and any other useful information.

I’ve updated all the source code for my MC drivers on my GitHub. This is my 5-year work project with Edge.
I’m not going to touch them for now. Don’t ask me to add anything, as I might make mistakes and break them.
You can use the source code to create your own drivers.
NOTE: My drivers’ code is a bit complicated, in my own image, hahaha, and it can be a bit difficult to follow since they have many custom functions and special cases that only work with my drivers. Many devices would have gone to the trash without them.
Enjoy and improve them, they’re yours.

I thought the zigbee and zwave hub core automatically handled the health check. Is this a capability that can be overridden in the driver?
The health_check function is only used in ZigBee; ZWave is different.
The stock drivers have removed it from all their ZigBee drivers.
In my drivers, I’ve only removed it from battery-powered devices.
I’m convinced that in A/C or DC-powered devices, many of which are also repeaters, it’s still useful for maintaining a strong ZigBee network, especially when there are many devices and they’re far apart.
It only runs and consumes resources when a device stops reporting messages and tries to communicate with it to avoid displaying it as offline.
This can only increase message traffic if the user has devices like repeater bulbs and disconnects them from the power grid, but that’s already counterproductive and can damage the health of the ZigBee network. Users shouldn’t do this systematically.
