Echo arrives on 28th, UK supported?

Tried registering my Spotify account on the Alexa App this morning and I’m getting a blank screen when it tries to hit layla.amazon.com

Just checked the Alex.amazon.com again and its (while loaded) automatically reloaded the page to alexa.amazon.co.uk - And now my prime is working!

Didnt do anything.

Mine has just arrived - looking forward to testing it out when I get home!

Deano, I know you say you didn’t do anything - but can you confirm exactly what steps you did take to make your Alexa a fully fledged UK model?

Any reset of the device, deregistering of the device, logging in/out of the relevant amazon.com or .co.uk accounts etc. Did you raise a support request with Amazon at all?

Well this is what I’ve done over the last 24 hours (which is how long I’ve been messing).

  • Signed out of Alex App - Signed back in
  • De-registered Echo from Alexa app
  • Put Echo in Setup Mode
  • Rejoined Echo to Alexa App
    (Didnt Work)
  • De-registered Echo from Alexa App
  • Manually reset Echo with a paper clip and button at the bottom
  • Re joined Echo to Alexa app
    (Didnt work)
  • Email Amazon CS last night at 12AM
  • Tried to call me today (at work so didn’t answer)
  • Email received saying "

Hello Dean,
Michael here at Amazon.co.uk. I’ve picked up your email today and I understand from your email that your Amazon Echo is not recognising your Prime account. I tried to call you on ############, however I was unable to reach you. I have left a voice mail confirming my call.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve encountered issues with your Echo device.
To remedy this, please uninstall and reinstall the Alexa companion app from the Appstore. Once installed, you will need to sign back into the app and reconfigure any connected smart home devices.<

  • Went to reload the Alexa page online and noticed its now loading me into the Alexa.amazon.co.uk rather than .com.

Now its all working?

Maybe the Amazon guy did do something, but if he did he didnt tell me.

Im guessing from this and from other information I can find, it requires manual intervention from Amazon staff to stop things automatically directing to the .com and US versions.

Also, if people have a US amazon account that they may use because the work in the states or for whatever other reason, the echo defaults to use that and there is no way to tell your device which amazon (and therefor prime account) to use.

How such tech giants manage to mess things up so well I dont know.

jealous, I’m out of the country till Friday and mine is arriving at home today.

I’ve just contacted Amazon UK Echo support and can confirm that to switch from US to UK account requires Amazon.co.uk intervention. Support guy said he has to raise a ticket and pass it to the engineers to do a manual switch and that it may take some time.

Now I’m wondering what will stop working once I’m switched?

Did you do it through the Alexa App ?

Good news, ST works!

It’s not listed in the app, but you can go to the UK alexa site and ST is listed as a skill.

Enabling it, authorising and discovering works fine.

I did it from Amazon.co.uk website


then sign in
then selected Amazon Devices and Kindle Apps.
then your Echo
then a couple of drop down selections and clicked Contact By Phone
They called me back and that was it.

I was on the USA account using MacLexa, and now I think im on the UK one. Didn’t have to do anythhing.

Anyway I can check?

i think it says under ‘settings, about alexa app’ it wouldsay .co. or .co.uk website

Ah ffs. Mine says alexa.amazon.com

If you go to amazon.co.uk -> My Account -> Manage Content & Devices

If the Echo is there, its registered to the UK one

The lack of sports teams available for the ‘Sports Update’ is pretty bad.

Thanks for that - All 3 of my echoes are listed on my amazon.co.uk account.
So am I done now or do I need to do anything else ?

Looks like it just EPL teams so I don’t think it has changed.
Hopefully this will improve over time.

Fingers crossed - although I somehow doubt that they’ll stretch to Conference North teams!
