When I first used SmartThings years ago, there was a direct link to my Philips Hue hub. At some point, this stopped working, and SmartThings asked me to create a web integration, which I did. I had to reprogram my automations, but I didn’t have many back then, so it wasn’t a problem. Not long afterwards, the direct integration started working again, and I ended up with every bulb duplicated. Every new bulb I add is also duplicated. I understand what’s going on (Connecting Philips Hue wifi lights - #3 by JDRoberts). A couple of weeks ago, I moved all my automations back to the LAN integration, and everything is running locally again. To prevent me getting confused, I have added “local” to the names of the “local bulbs”, leaving the names of the “cloud bulbs” unchanged. Don’t worry, I know they’re the same physical bulbs!
In SmartThings, I have my Hue hub shown as a device in “No room assigned” and Philips Hue listed in “Linked services”. I assume that I just need to remove Philips Hue in “Linked services” and all the duplicate bulbs will disappear, with the Hue hub still shown as a device.
You should be good to go! Removing the linked service should remove the hue cloud devices. The only thing I would have done differently - I would have renamed the linked services devices as they are the ones that will be deleted. That way, you wouldn’t need to rename the locally connected devices back to their original name if you intend to do that. But that is just my thought.
Thank you. I realised my schoolboy error with the renaming after I’d done most of them, so I just carried on with the remaining couple. I’ll rename the local ones back again next time I’m delayed by 70 minutes on a train…
Can I ask a related question (as you’ve recently been through this)? I too just removed Hue from my linked services to eliminate multiple duplicates and it worked well. I was a bit impatient waiting for my system to refresh though and mistakenly removed two Hue lights that were not the duplicate ones (so now they’re nowhere to be found in Smartthings (still fine in my Hue app). How do I add just those two lights back?
Good question. This occurred after I migrated from my Smartthings Hub(v2) to an Aeotec M3 Hub (so Matter?). I did try scanning (neither light appeared)…
I see under Advanced/Devices when I’m logged into my.smartthings.com that all of my Hue lights/devices (except the two I deleted) are of Type/Exec: Edge_Child/Local and that my Hue Bridge is LAN/Local, if that helps…
I’m sorry I can’t help, because everything went fine for me. It might be worth trying removing the bulbs from Hue, but that risks doing more harm than good.
