I own 6 Flics and am not at all impressed. Absolute pain in the butt to get them all paired with my iPhone 6s–kept giving some useless message about the Flic possibly needing a firmware update, but of course there’s no way to update firmware until it’s paired (and, even then, there’s no option in the app to update a Flic’s firmware). Initially, only 1 of the 6 worked. After many, many retries, I finally got the rest paired. But, even with the app always running in the background on my phone, they rarely ever work and I need to go back in the app and tap “Connect” to re-establish the connection (this is different than pairing, thank goodness, but still an irritating manual step). They’ll work for a few hours, and then stop again. Maddening.
If Shortcut Labs would publish docs about how to pair/communicate with the Flics, or actually answer emails, then I’d write some code to pair them with a Raspberry Pi or the like (SmartThings v2 hub, once bluetooth is enabled!)–something that can maintain a connection more reliably than the app.
Their web site is slick and polished, but their customer support is abysmal (check out the comments on the kickstarter page!) and, with all the problems mentioned above, my impression is that they’re all hat and no cattle.
Maybe things will improve but, for anyone considering a purchase, I’d recommend saving your money for now.
Sorry to hear they’re not working for you. The first Flic I got was a total pain to pair. Then there was a firmware update. Since then it’s stayed connected fine. I got a second batch of five more and they paired much more easily. (I assume they came with the new firmware since they didn’t indicate an update was needed.)
Different things work for different people, and somewhere between 10 and 15% of electronic devices sold in the US seem to be defective these days. (Reports vary, but it’s not the under 1% it used to be.). That’s why I only buy from places with a good return policy. If I can’t make it work in two or three weeks, it goes back.
Because I’m pushing the switches with my elbow or my knee, and my service dog is pushing with his nose, the flic form factor is particularly good for us. (For those who don’t know, the Flic is round and rubbery, about the diameter of a quarter but not flimsy. )
But I would think the iris smart button, which is Zigbee so it connects directly to the SmartThings hub, would be a better choice for a lot of people. And it’s 10 bucks cheaper. It’s just it’s got sharp edges and it’s hard plastic so the flic is better for me. But I haven’t seen the problems you’ve had since the firmware update. So maybe I just got lucky.

My understanding is that functionality wise there isn’t a difference. I use them for resetting devices. My plans involved turning them into bedside controllers using the guts, but I don’t have the time fr that now. They do have some scuff marks.
A-Z warehouse " used" usually just means a damaged box. I always check there first. 1 of the GE outdoors I got “used” actually was a return, had to do exclusion before it would connect. Small price to pay for saving $20.
First, the original color bulb is $29.99 using this link and the code: cybermonday at checkout.
Second, the new Color 1000 is $44.99 using blackfriday25 at checkout.
The biggest difference is the original one uses 17 watts of electricity (at full brightness) and heats up much more than the new one which only uses 11 watts at full brightness. The new bulb is a little brighter at 1055 vs 1017 lumens and is slightly smaller as well. It is now size A19 instead of the larger A21 size.
Overall both bulbs are compelling deal especially when considering that even the temperature adjustable Osram Lightify goes for $30 and even the bargin bulbs are (GE Link, Cree Connected, etc) $15 and throw out a lot less light (800 - 850 lumens).
Edit:Shipping is around $7.50 or free if you spend $350 (i think) or more.
