This was previously mentioned in the announcement of an upcoming SmartThings app upgrade for later this fall, but new details from Phillips now indicate that the sync feature will be available only for galaxy phones and tablets.

Basic hue integration will still be available through any client, including iOS.

The smart app for music sync is only for Samsung devices. On my Galaxy Tab A 7 it is available and works. It is not displayed on the Xiaomi smartphone.

If you play music from Spotify it has it by default through the Hue app.

Other Hue companion apps are using the phones microphone to do this.
