What is the email or contact for change of ownership. We purchased the home, I have the shared app but I want the ownership changed to me.
There are two ways you can do it:
-
reset the hub which wipes all current devices and routines. This reset also removes the hub from whoever claimed it. Then add devices back and create Routines.
-
open the hub in the app, tap on the 3 dots in the upper right. There should be an option to transfer the hub. If it doesnât show the first time, close the window and try again. Two notes:: you need to remove any driver channels that the original owner registered, which will probably require the owner to do. Then add them back once the transfer of the hub is complete. The second note: not sure if this works with a shared account. Possible the original owner would need to intervene to do the transfer as the owner. If you can contact them. Otherwise⌠probably option 1.
If you need to reach out to ST Support, tap on Menu and select Contact us. They canât change ownership and will simply ask you to reset the hub.. but they can provide a new welcome code if you have a V2 hub if you need one.
or ask St Staff here to generate one for you.
Simply resetting a hub? It took me nearly a full week in the evenings to reconnect all my devicesâthere are over 60 devices with unique reconnection routines and link codes in unexpected places.
And I still havenât recreated all the routines.
It would be a better experience to keep everything intact and allow the new owner to change or remove the things they want.
Hi, @Paul_Dowling
@jkp summarized it correctly. From our side, we can help in case the device transfer doesnât complete successfully.
Also, if the hub is a V2, we can also help you get the Welcome Code if you provide the serial number
This is the hub photo, what can be done to keep the information but change the owner? IM6001 V3P01
What is the email to send this private information to? Serial number etc?
Thanks for the reply. The owner said this.
I still see the hub connected in my app. I have an option to remove it. Will that wipe out the information? He is the owner, and shared to me.
But will that remove you as well from the hub or just me?

Not Remove. Click on Edit which is directly above Remove in the menu.
first, the owner needs to un-enroll any driver channels he/she may have enrolled for custom edge drivers. it this is not done, it mostly likely will prevent the hub from transferring since those channels would be registered under their account. ask them to keep a list so you can easily add them back.
after they remove the channel drivers, they should open the hub in the app, tap on 3 dots and select Edit. at the bottom of that screen is the option to transfer the hub. if it doesnât show the first time, close the screen and open Edit again.
question - how many devices do you have directly connected to the hub and any cloud-to-cloud integrations? C2C integrations would need to be switched over to your account.
Itâs kind of surprising this still isnât supported natively. For things like selling a house or handing over a setup, a proper ownership transfer feature would save a ton of time.
There is one as mentioned above. Only problem in this thread is the new owner is the one wanting to transfer from the previous home owner but does not have ownership of the hub. The original owner who has full permissions to the hub needs to initiate the transfer of the hub from their end to the new owner.
Plus there is the other option (if no devices attached or very few) - reset the hub and add it to the app of the new owner.

As has been mentioned, there is a tool on the Devices page in the app called something like âGive devices to someone elseâ (itâs only visible if you own devices). Itâs not perfect though as it canât really deal with hub devices being owned by more than one person, or indeed older devices not being owned by anyone at all, and of course devices are only part of the story.
In my opinion the real trick with SmartThings is to have each Location owned and exclusively managed by a different account that is not in any other Location and that you would be happy to sanitise and transfer to someone else if need be. There is wriggle room to bundle Locations together if that makes sense for your circumstances. Keep your personal accounts for personal use.
In some regions of the world.
