I have the Carrier ceiling cassettes and cannot get them to join the Wifi - sadly there is no display so you can’t see if you are in AP mode … I have been pressing the LED button 7 times after a power up and never see the net_ac_xxxx in my WiFi settings. Any ideas?
For wifi control, I had the HVAC contractor install the thermostat interface kit, and then I can use any smart thermostat. I chose one Nest for each zone. Nest has SmartThings integration, as does Ecobee and some of the others.
Temperature is read from the Nest, not from the unit – which is a good thing, because our indoor units are ducted and located in the crawl space.
I have a carrier ducted mini carrier mini split in the attic that was installed just under two years ago. I requested an ecobee, so the installers set it up with the interface board. This worked great, except without being able to access turbo mode, in the middle of the summer it wasn’t cooling enough. So they removed the ecobee and installed the 7 day programmable thermostat. It cools better now, but I sure wish I had a smart thermostat like is on my Mr. Cool in the garage and main house HVAC. I’ve seen several devices that simulate this by interacting with the IR receiver, but I don’t have IR. I’m thinking my options are 1) install the carrier wireless device (which gets poor reviews), or 2) install an IR device (if such a device exists) in the bedroom that communicates with the mini split unit (such as the cielo breeze plus smart controller).
Does an IR device exist? I figure I could run a line through the vent to the bedroom if it does. Or use one of the thermostat lines since that would probably be inactivated. I’m not sure how they work… My manual says one should have come with my unit but it didn’t. Are there any other options to consider? I sure wish Ecobee, or anyone, made a direct replacement for that 7 day programmable thermostat.
