[BROKEN] NST Manager v5.0 (Does Not Work Anymore)

Someone put a Santa hat on me!

I was successfully able to install NST Manager today and was looking to use my Nest Outdoor cam as a motion sensor to trigger my front exterior lights. What am I missing?

Because of timing of events between NST Manager and Nest, the motion event is not recorded in NST Manager (day late and a dollar short). You have two options:
* Run the REST streaming service for NST Manager (real time events)
* Or use IFTTT (pretty close to real time based on the trigger service)

I’m going to refer you to a post that I just made for someone else who had a separate question based on something I posted 5 days ago in this thread. If you go down 3/4 of that post, it addresses the REST and IFTTT and how I’m doing this now:

Thanks for the reply @WB70, I tried using IFTTT, I can get it to trigger the lights to turn on with motion but I would also like it to turn off after 5 minutes of no motion. Were you able to add a delay on the IFTTT recipe?

IFTTT should only be used for Nest as a Trigger Service for person event on a notification received, and then action service to turn on a virtual switch in ST instead of a light.

Create a Piston in webCoRE when that virtual switch is turned on, turn on the light, wait 5 minutes, then turn off light and virtual switch.

  • By having the virtual switch, you can do other things as well in addition to turning on a light as well such as sounding an alarm, playing an audio notification on a speaker. This gives you flexibility later when you want to add additional actions.

I tried my best to search for any previous request matching this, but somehow, due to very the keywords being too common, I only got hundreds of Camera related posts.

Basically, I am looking for an automation for the Nest Thermostat related to external sensors + room occupancy.
I already use the external temperature sensors automation currently and it works perfectly. However, I am looking for a way to get the app to only consider temperatures from external sensors in those rooms, where occupancy is also detected from external motion sensors.
So if no one is there in my living room, I don’t want the thermostat to take any actions no matter how hot or cold the living room is.

Could someone please enlighten me on whether this is already possible in the app?
@tonesto7 If the answer to the above question is no, could this be considered as a possible feature to be added, please?

Just ordered the Nest protect and looking forward to adding it to nst manager.
More then likely not possible but is there a way to use the alarm on the protect as a siren? I need to pick an alarm siren for when I’m out but had an idea that the alarm on the nest protect would be useful.

Cheers.

I don’t believe that is possible John. The Nest API has read only permissions for the Protect (Smoke + CO), meaning it will return an alarm from the Protect, but you can by no means write to it to sound the alarm for any such purpose.

@tonesto7 can elaborate more on it, but a smoke detector should never be used for anything but a smoke detector anyway. Not using it for some other function in your HA system.

I’m having an issue viewing my 3 thermostats in the S.T. / NST Manager app. They simply “timeout” when trying to connect to my thermostats.

I’m using appVersion “5.2.3” Date “11-20-2017” so I’m pretty sure I’m on the latest + greatest?

The weather works, the presence works, just viewing each individual thermostat no longer works.

Yeah was just an idea really, that just popped into my head
I guess a dedicated alarm would be better anyways, just trying to find the best one for my needs.

Thanks.

Can you elaborate? What do you mean timing out? When you open them in Things, you have a spinning circle?

Yes, I just get a spinning circle. I also have ST integrated with Kodi and I keep getting “unable to communicate with Thermostat (X) errors” on my Kodi log. So something has happened but not sure what.

Are you on Android?

Force stop the SmartThings app
Go back into the app
Select one thermostat
Swipe down on the screen
And then read the big message.

Then after you have read that message.
Go back to the main screen (dashboard)
Then open that same thermostat
Swipe down
And you will see the top fields populated
But the HTML Content will not load again until you Force Stop the ST App again.

Yes I’m on Android. I followed your steps (thanks!), And I’m able to view the thermostats. I did not get any “big message” though.

I’m still getting error messages about not being able to communicate with all the thermostats using this Kodi addon. So not sure if it’s the Nest integration or an issue with the above addon.

Coz, is that Kodi addon in their repo? I can’t seem to find it anywhere, apart from that zip file.

I can’t remember now if I downloaded the zip from that page or from the official repo. It is however listed in the Kodi forums. That’s how I noticed it in the first place.

I had this smartapp and it was working fine with the provided tokens. Noticed now when I was going to add a new protect that they had not been update for a very long time. So I removed everything and startet over. Everything seems to be ok, I did not get any errors or something, and Im able to find all mye devices and select them.

But the problem is that it does not actually add any devices when I installed the smartapp. There is no errors on the mobile app or in the live log. Tried selecting the protects, weather device and presence device. Nothing comes up in the “Things” list. I’m on the latest version of the smartapp and all the DTH’s

If you successfully authenticated to Nest, after you installed, then you would add each of your devices from the main screen of the NST Manager SmartApp in Automation / SmartApps.

Share a screenshot of your main page when you open Nest Manager. It shows your Nest Location and Home/Away Assist status.

It finds all my devices, but does not actually add any devices when I finish the installation

Go over to your Nest Application. Do you have any new messages at the top of the app?

If you do, open the most recent one, scroll down and click allow.

Also, go into works with nest. Do you see your SmartThings product you created? Open it. Does it say added by you?
