[BROKEN] NST Manager v5.0 (Does Not Work Anymore)

Few questions if you dont mind.

Alright last answers for the day (Then you get to start reading on your own )

  1. I prefer to use the ST presence and not the nest auto away, so do i go into the nest app and disable anything to do with auto assist etc?
  • Yes - In Nest Set Phone to No in Home/Away Assist
  1. If i do that, will ST know when to switch to away, even though i have disabled the home/away feature in Nest. ( i thought ST needed to know that )
  • No, ST (directly) is only going to set your Mode in ST to Away (Based on you creating a Routine)
  • NST Manager (SmartApp) if you configure the NST Mode Automation to set your Nest to Away when Mode is Away and Home when Mode is Home will then automatically update Nest (Not ST by itself, but by NST Manager Automation Rule)
  1. I also have a few lights turn on when arriving, but how do you set that up to only happen when it actually needs lights? Lux setting? I use a Fibaro for LUX readings.
  • Install WebCoRE and create Pistons instead of creating Routines from within ST for your lighting needs and simplify it not by LUX, but by Sunset.
  1. The welcome message. Love the idea of that. What speaker is this?
  • Bose Soundtouch 10 - I have several of them. 2 of them are connected directly to Echo Dots via aux cable. An audio message is sent to them based on several criteria (qualifications met) in my system.

Do not take on number 3 and 4 yet. Get the entire basics and foundational understanding of setting up your system with the Routines that you are going to create (or have already created) to make sure that you are setting your SHM Status and your Mode to all compliment each other when Leaving and Arriving and at bedtime/Nighttime/Armed(Home) Status and any other basic lighting Routines / Rules / Automations that you create that run in addition and based on those Modes/Settings. You have to understand those pieces 100% or you are going to wind up with a mess. You need to start from left to right and then when that all makes sense, you move further right and integrate NST Manager and then you can set up the Automations within that SmartApp that runs and compliments the ST System based on the Modes we discussed. If you go all over the map to soon, and try to do too much without mapping out how everything changes in your system based on what you are automating up front, it will cause further chaos and calamity. Trust me, one step at a time and you will come out ahead and more happy

Thanks buddy, appreciate the effort and time you have given me.
Your right, one step at a time. I cant help but go head first into something though.

I’m scared of webcore and I dont think i’ll ever delve into that. I have smartrules and hoping that i can do the, lights on based on LUX for my lights to come on depending on light levels, but I’ll cross that bridge tomorrow.

Just stay focused on the most important aspects. Get your foundation laid out first. Write it out in Notepad before you build anything, and once you understand the direct ST stuff and that becomes basic knowledge to you, WebCoRE is just another SmartApp (Even though you get to build in a screen that is not directly inside of ST) and you don’t have to be a programmer, or have a degree. People with NO IT skills are using WebCoRE everyday. There is an entire community for that and plenty of people to assist. Once you write your first Piston and understand the logic, trust me, its simpler than you think. Anyway, focus on this:

** Routines **

  1. When I’m home and its daytime, I want:
  • SHM to be Disarmed
  • Mode to be Home
  • Disarm my system at Sunrise
  • But only if Mode is Night (Don’t want to Disarm if I am Away)
  1. When I (Everyone) leaves the house I want:
  • SHM to be Armed (Away)
  • Mode to be Away
  1. When it’s bedtime (10pm) I want:
  • SHM to be Armed (Home)
  • Mode to be Night
  • But only if Mode is Home (Don’t Arm to Home if I’m Away)
  1. When it’s sunset and Mode is Home or Night
  • I want these lights to come on and stay on until Sunrise
  1. When it’s sunset and Mode is Away
  • I want certain lights to turn on and off randomly so nobody knows I’m away
  1. When Motion is detected and Mode is Home or Night and its after Sunset:
  • Turn on these lights and then turn them off after no motion in 1 minute
  • Don’t want them to turn on when Mode is Away or Home and before Sunset

Those are in my opinion some of the more important basic building blocks of your system to get you off and running and understanding how all of that transitions together and each piece compliments based on whether your system is Armed and the Mode that is set will determine on how everything else in your system can and will be automated.

That was your bonus answer for the day. Spend a week tinkering with all of that and get everything dialed in first and have all of these pieces setup and running reliably before you go dipping your feet in another pond

Love it.
Cheers man.

Have a good night.

I just got a 3rd gen Nest a week ago and have integrated with with SmartThings using this smartapp. I’m now getting notifications about the Nest going offline and then online again (after exactly 3 minutes every time, according to the event timestamps) a few times every day. Is this normal/expected? When this happens the Nest iOS app also shows the thermostat as being offline, however if I go to it and navigate to the Network test menu, it says it’s connected to the Cloud and sending updates every few seconds, i.e. it doesn’t appear to be offline.

I did some googling and there appears to be similar complains from other users, but hard to tell if it’s WiFi issues or what. I don’t think there’s any problem with my WiFi network, cause none of the many other devices ever report connectivity issues, and the Nest is located in the same room as the 5Ghz access point.

Even with an access point being right there, it’s still possible that being on the 5ghz channel is dropping. I would try switching to 2.4ghz first and see if that resolves your issue.

2.4ghz - A longer range but slower
5ghz - Much faster but a lot less range.

I have a Netgear Nighthawk with 2.4gz and two 5ghz channels and unless I am directly in front of the router, the speed drops off tremendously when going further away, versus the 2.4ghz channel having a slower speed but less drop off the further away I get.

I would start there, and if 2.4ghz doesn’t resolve the issue, then start troubleshooting elsewhere.

So Last night did the latest update. I went to update one of my Nest automation. I think I hit a few keys maybe too fast and when I went back to edit the schedule I got the Somethings wrong…blah blah blah. So I deleted the automation thinking it was something I did. SO I rebuilt everything. Went back to edit another nest this morning and its Automation. Same thing. This time I did not hit anything unusual. I just changed a Alternate Remote Sensor and hit save. Screen went blank so I tried to back out of it. Went back to edit and . Somethings Wrong… Tried to hit the play button on the App and no dice.

Update: The one last night had the Simulated Temp Sensor. I created two more and the one this morning that crapped out was one of the new Simulated Temp Sensors

When im in the Smartthings app, market place trying to add nest manager the status page pops up you are missing the Client ID and Secret.

My OAuth is set up, I am a new user. I’m not currently logged into my home network, i’m at work I’m not sure if that matters?

thanks

Did you create your Nest Developer account and add all the permissions, and then add the product id and product secret to the settings in the NST Manager SmartApp in IDE?

Uhh Nope, haha, i read all the instructions multiple times but I didn’t see where that needed to be done. Is that done through the nest website?

Thanks so much for your help, if there is a link on how to do that, it would be much appreciated!

In the old days, the token was auto generated for you. Now each individual Nest owner needs to create their own.

here is the error I am getting when I try to access the Automation
9:24:55 AM: error java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke method replaceAll() on null object

You are killing me!

You manage to have the strangest issues…

I absolutely love these nondescript exceptions :expressionless:
I’m looking into it right now.

I like to put every program through the ringer. Again I think this has to do with the simulated Temp Sensor. Have a CS degree so I enjoy giving people pain since I had to go through it all in school

That’s what I heard :expressionless:

I am working on tracking it down

Guess what Phil is getting for Christmas… A big sack of coal

So i think i’m almost there. Now i logged into my nest account through the nest manager app, it redirects me to the nest website correctly and logs in, when i press accept it brings me to page with a bunch of code I’ll try to upload a screen shot of it but i think it has my secret info in it.

When i press done it just brings me back to the original nest manager screen asking me to link my nest credentials

Don’t send anything with personal info about your account in the screenshot to the public community.

Send a screenshot of your nest developer:

  1. overview page - everything above the product id.

  2. permissions page so we can see all 5 permissions and their settings.

Also send screenshots of:

  1. SmartApps page in IDE showing NST Manager and NST Automations

  2. And then a screenshot of all the Device Handlers in IDE for the Nest devices.
