Any hope for a solution?
Nope, not really. Supposedly Google will eventually add some of the “Works with Nest” functionality to the “Works with Google Assistant” program, but that’s likely a ways off, and it’s hard to say what that will look like or how much functionality it will have.
I’m looking at replacing my Nest thermostat with an Ecobee or cheap z-wave t-stat because I’m not willing to wait for a chance of partial functionality sometime in the future, I want full functionality now.
I just bought a Nest camera (Did not do my homework correctly on this one …)
Any way to create a “legacy” Nest account ? (Before migration)
I would like to use NST manager until Google release a new API
Thanks
No. Google has discontinued creation of new nest accounts. New nest users have to use Google accounts after aug 31st
There is a public web api for Nest that might allow basic control for those who are either late to the party or who moved to a Google account. Someone has created a plugin for Home Assistant utilizing this. I spent a few hours over the weekend looking through the code and I don’t see why something similar couldn’t be done with SmartThings, but I don’t really have the coding skills or the time to pull something like that off.
Anyone more skilled than me with some time to kill over the holidays want to tackle this?
Of course it can be done, but no one seems to want to do it for smartthings since google will offer a new api next year anyway
Anyone got a Nest account for sale ?
I had (have) a Nest account and did not migrate it. It was previously unreliable needing me to regular re-save settings in the app but lately has been very stable. (Lucky me.)
Is it possible to use this same account with a.n.other smart system which has not already been setup with a Nest account? Or does each system need to acquire its own unique token? By another system I am meaning some other non-Smartthings hub.
Not possible. Integrations using nest accounts are no longer supported.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured. I ended up losing my Nest account and am torn between replacing my thermostat with an Ecobee, or tinkering with the public api to get some functionality back between now and the new api. I’m also skeptical of their “late 2020” timeline based on past performance, and fear it could drag on significantly longer.
Same, noticed my last logged in activity was 2 weeks ago, so I mistakenly selected logout/reset token. Now when I try logging back in I too get “oops something went wrong” when trying to authorize the connection.
Note that I have NOT migrated my account to google…
Unfortunately once you logged out and reset the token, there is no way to reconnect.
Works for me still, just have to go to the smartapp and hit save sometimes to get the API running again. Glad I never removed anything haha.
I also mistakenly reset the token so I am logged out. It wasn’t working anyway. I would have to go into the app and save daily to get the thermostats to respond so it was useless already. Debating wether to wait it out or just replace them.
I just dumped my two Nest Learning Thermostats and replaced them with a pair of Ecobee3 lites. The Ecobee is far superior. The strength of the Ecobee solution is in their smart sensors. I have eight of them scattered around the house. This enables me to address areas of the house that would get too cold or too warm. The thermostats and sensors all work with WebCore predictably and reliably. I can now finally integrate temperature control with the rest of my smart things.
For those still using this SmartApp, and trying to migrate to the new ST app … does the Nest Presence Device and Nest Weather work for you? I’m guessing the devices don’t load the DTH because they use a non-standard UI, but why isn’t the presence sensor available under Member location or Device Status?
For all those white broken NST… I just remembered this post from a couple of years ago. This was how to integrate Echo before it was official.
I could imagine something similar for google home to control nest using speech announcements from Wecore…
Weather won’t work. Presence probably needs a fix and can work with some modifications
Being a long topic and not easy to catch-up, could someone please clarify for me if:
-I can login in NST manager with google account?
-there is a way to create a new Nest account, not google, or any other way to use NST mngr integration in Smartings
-if none of the above, how a Nest Protect can be integrated with Smartthings? (via device handler, app, whatever)
Thanks.
No to all of the above. Sorry!
