Just wanted to update the thread with newer information in case anyone found this like I did searching for answers.
they’ve upgraded quite a bit, and firstly the Smartthings integration can now control Brilliant control switches.
Scenes have been updated to allow importing of partner created scenes from Hue and LiFX - big YAY!!!
Rooms/Zones import from Hue (still not through ST)
Scenes can now be automated by time natively on the control
I can update after I play with the update a little more
I received a Brilliant as a gift. Mine is for a dual switch. I have not installed it yet, but it looks pretty nice. It would be absolutely wonderful if there was some way to use the display on the Brilliant module to trigger my Navilink Recirc pump. I have a Navien water heater with recirculation, but the plumber didn’t put one of the doorbell switches near the kitchen sink. They are only in the bathrooms. Therefore, I have to pull out my cell phone to heat up the water before washing the dishes (or starting the laundry). It would be WONDERFUL if I could trigger the hot water with just a few taps on the Brilliant screen.
Has anyone work on integrating the Navilink functionality with Smartthings (or Action Tiles or Wemo or anything)??
I am in the middle of replacing all the existing switches and dimmers in the apartment with Brilliant tech - all great so far!
The Smartthings integration works nicely - it would be amazing if the motion detectors on the dimmers/panels could be made available to integrations like Smartthings though… while its great to be able to control lights, motion detectors can be much more powerful for example for setting away, arming an alarm, triggering a scene. Right now I need to use separate motion detectors for that… if Brilliant exposed them to ST it would be less clutter, complexity and no more changing batteries.
I think you can mock this up by adding a virtual switch to Smartthings and having the Brilliand control flip the switch on motion, but this definitely seems like a hack.
I’ve had Brilliant for for about a year now and I think it is one of the worst “home automation” devices I have ever bought. I have disabled all three of the slider switches as they will dim up and down on their own so I had lights dimming up and down, going on and off at all times during the day and night, even the middle of the night.
It’s awfully annoying waking up to the hall lights right outside the bedroom turning on/dimming and off in the middle of the night. I called tech support and I’m told to restart the Brilliant to fix it which it did for a couple hours then it would do it again. When this happens it shows the screen for the slider controls and is difficult to get out of the screen to restart the device. So now I barely ever use it for anything, complete waste of money.
I will not buy another or recommend it to anyone. I think their support is crap telling me a reboot is the only fix, even though it only fixes it for only a couple hours and now I have three switches disabled as that was the only permanent fix I could find, it’s complete crap.
So I went though this forum and I wasn’t sure if its possible maybe someone could help me out. I recently ordered a Brilliant and was wondering if its possible to control a group of LifX lights as a group on one of the sliders. I think i saw it supported Hue groups but just curious if it works with LifX as well or will I need to find a workaround to do this. thanks
Hi y’all, not sure if this thread is still active or not, but I have recently installed one of the brilliant controls in order to test it with various devices to see if it could work for me. One of my big pet peeves are wall warts (in that I want as few as possible). Does anyone have any idea when Brilliant will enable access to motion sensors, cameras, etc? When we will able to pass messages to and from the controls? I would love to integrate the motion sensors with my alarm, and use them to control other things in SmartThings. Right now I am stuck with a hack where I would rig a switch that essentially does nothing except to trigger an event which would do something useful.
I too am hoping to integrate the motion sensor in the Brilliant Switch with Smartthings so I can create logical routines to turn on my office light when I walk down the hallway toward it.
