BLE to Zigbee

Hi everyone, have anybody managed or tried convert BLE to zigbee. There is information about converting temp&humidity BLE sensor in to Zigbee. I have done it and actualy xiaomi BLE is now connected as zigbee. Maybe there is any possibility to convert flood and contact sensor also?

How did you do it?

I am not verry well familiar with all this things. But i used tutorial from youtube. Just followed every steb and was able to add to my v2 hub. You can find detailed information on the link and also on youtube. Convert Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC BLE Sensor to Zigbee - SmartHomeScene

BLE and Zigbee (as well as Thread) transmit on the same radio frequency, so from a hardware standpoint, it is possible to take a device which used one of the protocols and change it so that it uses the other protocol.

However, it’s not a simple shift from one to the other.

You need to have a full firmware package to apply to the device so that it is sending the right information.

This is what a company like Eve does when it sends out a software update to change one of its devices from Bluetooth to Thread. It overwrites the existing communications management software to an entirely new communication management software which can send and receive the necessary thread information.

The link you gave had the instructions for taking a pre-existing Zigbee firmware package and using it to overwrite the BLE firmware package for that specific model sensor.

So as always, the first rule of home automation applies: “the model number matters.“

Someone would have to create a firmware package using Zigbee for that specific model sensor. And then other people would be able to copy that firmware package and apply it to their own sensors using a method similar to the one at the link that you posted.

This process is somewhat similar to creating a new edge driver but with additional functionality required to manage the communication protocol functions like check ins.

So there’s no generic way to simply change from BLE to Zigbee. Somebody has to write a firmware package for each specific device model you want to convert. And those firmware packages can be quite complex.
