Arlo Cams coming in few weeks

Not if you are ok with having clips on both clouds.

Hey, this might be a dumb question, but how do I arm or disarm or switch modes for these cameras with Smart Things?

You don’t. All you need is to flip the ST cam switch, but you keep Arlo on SmartThings mode.

Where is the ST cam switch located? Is it the same as the individual cameras that shows up in my Things tab? Is there a way to control it so they all turn on or off together?

Smart Lighting can do it, routines can do it. I use CoRE for mine. The switch is the button with the camera on it…

Another possibly daft question while we wait for things to appear here in the UK. There was talk of a new Android app version needed for Arlo support, but what about the iOS app?

Is this same/different/better than using SmartHomeMonitor? I just quickly changed settings in SHM this morning. Added the Arlo motion sensors and then under ā€œcapture video from these camerasā€ selected the Arlo cameras again. So if Arlos or my other motion/door sensors trigger, all four of my Arlos record for 1 minute.

My iPad got an update earlier in the week last week, and then android updated at end of the week if I remember correctly.

The SHM is ok, if you keep your cams ā€œactiveā€ all the time. But if you turn them off, then SHM won’t turn them back on. You need an app to handle the switches.

My understanding is that these cameras are always sensing motion. In Arlo, Armed means it will send an alert or record…Disarmed means no alert or recording.
If I’m correct, what exactly does ā€œactiveā€ mean?
@Tyler is there anyway we can get a breakdown with a few details of this integration with recommended settings? The dual Apps and different terminology is a little confusing.

Well the beauty of ST integration is that it shuts down the camera, unlike the modes Arlo provides. When you flip the switch it goes black  and you get this on the Arlo side

And you can enable it from Arlo manually:

OR use SmartLighting, CoRE, Routines, etc to do it for you in ST…

I’m sorry, I’m still having some problems understanding.

All I really want is a button or routine that I can use from my widget to arm or disarm the Arlo modes. I’m not sure I want to physically turn the cameras on and off.

I’m not sure if you addressed this already, but is there something in the integration that would allow me to just change the Arlo modes and not affect the cameras themselves?

Thanks

Short answer, you cannot change Arlo modes with current ST integration. But then why would you need it? You can flip the switch on and have access to the live feed. And you can enable motion and recording based on ST modes, no need to synchronize multiple modes over multiple platforms.

Does the Arlo Q wired cam also work, or is this Arlo with the hub only?

Um, it seems to do this regardless. I get the videos on Arlo AND ST, as I would expect given the nature of the cloud integration. I’ve found no way to have the videos show up only on ST.

Sorry, Wireless Arlo cameras only at present.

Sorry, but this solution only sorta works. I just tested this (turning off the cameras in ST) but they’re still active in Arlo and I still get notifications via either push or email as defined in the SmartThings mode in Arlo settings. I can disable notifications from Arlo entirely, but then my Arlo Q becomes useless.

That doesn’t happen on my end. :frowning: Sorry is not working for you.
