Arlo Camera's not working when contact sensors or othe motion sensors are activated as of August 28th

Received email from SmartThings Support (both terms which are quickly becoming an oxymoron) and they informed me that since I have removed and re-added my cameras since providing my test failure data (now 7 weeks ago) that they had to have an additional set of test data.

If they’d be more reactive to the ticket I wouldn’t be doing my own trouble shooting and create this situation.

So I have followed their directions and provided additional test data.

Bless Their Hearts

I was asked by the development team to add them as a member on October 9th. I reluctantly invited them on October 14th. They still have not accepted and checked out my system yet. Almost a month now. Obviously this is not a priority for them to have cameras working on a security system. They keep putting out App updates though. It sure would be nice if they just concentrated on fixing what used to work and should work to be a security system. Right now it is like having a security dog with a muzzle on.

I’ve received updates from both SmartThings and Arlo. Both swear they are still working on the problem, but I still see no change.

A ST Automation will trigger a recording in ARLO for an ARLO Q Camera and the recording is saved to the ARLO website under my account.

A ST Automation will trigger (so they say) a recording for an ARLO PRO Camera but the recording is not saved (thus it might as well didn’t happen)

I’ll continue to update this thread as I receive additional information

Still miss Iris

If anyone from smart things ever reads this. Since you can’t fix the classic app, which is the only place you can make Arlo cameras record from a contact or motion sensor, why don’t you created this option in the new app. (Custom option that is missing under STHM) Isn’t it about time that this option is there. How long do we have to wait. Are you ever going to try to improve the new app so it is the only one everyone uses. Are you even aware this option doesn’t exist? It would be nice to see an answer about this from the ST’s development team. Isn’t what this Community page is for? I would hope it is not just a place for people to complain about problems that have been going on for over three months.

Nice to know it is not just me. I have a driveway alarm (Guardline) that is hooked to a “closed” ST window sensor. It turns on the lights, but the Arlo cam never records like it should. For now the Arlo’s are just set up as “Armed”. I did get an Arlo Pro 2 with the “lookback”, but had to run power out to it, to activate this feature. Since my ST window sensor seems weird sometimes (stays “open” and doesn’t recycle back to closed) I set my Arlo cam motion sensor to turn on the lights (driveway and outside garage). When I do look at the ST Video, it is supposed to capture, to shows a picture from months ago…

This is what I found on the Arlo Community page. Hopefully it works. I would be wonderful if the development team would send out a message to all users acknowledging this problem.

I’m not sure what the heck is going on but my smartthings hub which has been working fine after I replaced my Arlo 4000 hub with an Arlo 3500 hub has now gone crazy. My smartthings hub said it was offline for a couple hours, assumed it was an update, now none of the routines work as expected as they did with my old 3500 Arlo hub.
I use to get recordings from smartthings old app, now it seems those recordings are not even getting triggered by smartthings old app. Perhaps this was arlos solution, to get rid of smartthings functionality. Usingg the smartthings old app it does not work. I’ll try with the new app later but from past experience the new app does not allow you to trigger recordings. So perhaps we all just screwed and Arlo does not care. Merry f’n Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.

I have been watching the Arlo Community Page for a while waiting for this firmware update. It came out today and I think it might have fixed the problem. From what I am seeing on my iPad recordings it looks like my four smart things motion sensors that I have mounted outside on some soffits are causing the cameras to record again as programed. I need to do some testing when I get home but it looks promising. I actually just added another program to make my two indoor cameras record when my garage door opens it. I tested it and it worked.

My ARLO Recordings triggered from ST CLassic App are now once again saving in the ARLO Cloud as well. It only took them 4 months to finally fix this.

Good Grief.

Now, if anyone from the ST’s development team ever reads anything on the community page please make sure that this capability is in place in the new app before you sunset the classic app. This is a very important part of a security system and it is actually hard to believe it isn’t already in the new app. I doubt they will respond to this post at all because I don’t think they read this. All we are looking to do is trigger a recording on any camera from any motion sensor or any door contact. It’s that simple. Just like we can do again in the classic app.

Mike - Starting yesterday, it appears that the Smartthings-to-Arlo interface has broken again. My triggered recordings from ST have quit being saved in the ARLO cloud. Are you seeing similar behavior?
