Aqara G4 - unique profile with door lock linking

I recently switched from a Ring Pro 2 to the Aqara G4. I was pleased to see the G4 integrates with SmartThings and even more pleased to see it uses a unique Device Profile and Presentation ID that enables you to add a door lock to the UI. This allows any lock you have integrated with SmartThings to be added to the doorbell’s device page. Thought that was pretty cool.

That looks good, thanks for sharing. When you mean integrates, do you mean being able to be natively added to an ST hub, or some other cloud-to-cloud integration?

I think its any lock, but all of mine are hub integrated. 2 switchbot locks over matter bridge, 1 yale lock over matter over thread and 1 aqara lock over matter bridge.

edit: sorry, think I misunderstood. The Aqara G4 doorbell is a cloud-to-cloud integration with SmartThings. Its under the Aqara brand in the ST app.

The G4 doorbell doesn’t use an Aqara hub.

Doesn’t require Aqara Hub to work but can be added to an Aqara Hub for Matter integration and other funtion.

hmmm, no. I have my Aqara hub integrated via Matter to multiple Matter controllers and none of them show any attributes of the G4 doorbell via Matter bridge.

Aqara promised some time ago to update the G4 firmware to support matter. Airware for now!

Can it recognize faces and auto unlock in ST?

Not yet, not until it supports matter and matter supports biometrics. It may be possible in the aqara ecosystem.

Seems it’s functional in HomeKit.

HomeKit can recognize faces, but it can’t trigger an automation based on it, at least in the Apple Home app.

So I guess it`s false advertising on their website.

Unfortunately with a lot of smart home devices you need to do a lot of reading between the lines. Nowhere does it state you can do automations in HomeKit, or any other connected ecosystem, based on faces. Only in the Aqara app itself can you do automations based on facial recognition.
