@DipSmithLLC Just want to say thank you for the Amazon Dot Case it fits good and works great. Thanks you I order another dot will you be able to make another one. The Dot not coming till July.
Thanks again good case.
Happy to help! I can certainty make more just shoot me a message or an email when you need one!
Quick question for those of you using this, does it hold well enough that it could be mounted from a ceiling?
Since this isnât my design and I donât have a Dot I canât test for myself or speak to the tolerances directly.
Thanks!
No it doesnt hold that tight. Ive considered adding some double sided gorilla tape to the bottom of the Dot. If only the Dots came in whiteâŚthey would be a perfect addition to almost any rooms ceiling!!
@DipSmithLLC No I donât think it fits that well but I order some museum tape to try it. @Turb02 you can get it in white. read @DipSmithLLC post the one that has the pic.
Thanks Gentlemen! I may need to look into getting one of these and creating a ceiling mount that the Dot can slide into from one side, maybe even hide the majority of the body so a white frame would blend in with the ceilings better⌠But this answers my question, thank you!
Oh I know the mount can be white, Iâm the one who brought @DipSmithLLC to this forumâŚto make these and the fire tablet mounts!!
I was referring to a white echo Dot.
@Turb02 Sorry I just misunderstood. Thanks for bringing him to the forum that what I like about this forum and smartthings and that is the diversity. Thanks again.
This could be a good idea, but there are speakers and Mics that cannot be covered, and possible issues with the heat.
Maybe something thats more of a âstickâ frame with a circular ring on the top, something like this with one side semi open so the dot can slide in:
LoL, this is the only thing I could find that would describe what Im thinking. Obviously it would have a base to the mount.
Lol thatâs similar to what I had in mind till you mentioned how nice it would be to have a white one that would blend in with the ceiling
I think you guys are over complicating the tap mount for a Ceiling application, all you need to do is drill/tap into the sides of the mount and attach velcro to go over the top to secure it. OR attach a zip tie around it. If either of these are black and done right they would hardly be noticeable imo
We arent talking about a âTapâ. Weâre referring to the âDotâ. Why jank it up when we have a 3D printer we can source?
I did mean the dot. For whatever reason I keep calling it the tap even though I have both
Anyone with a dot considered either having it in your car or even portable? Hotspot + battery + dot = Alexa everywhere you goâŚ
Finally an excuse to buy a 3d printer
Now I need to figure out which one I want.
I have the dot in my car. I use the Vinli obd II device for my in car wifi to connect the dot to the Internet Both devices are connected to Smartthings. It works great. Now if I can get TTS to work on the dot I can get voice notifications while on the road too.
how much data has it been using?
I would verify with Amazon support that itâs OK to hang these upside down before investing in any mounting equipment.
Many electronic devices are designed for specific heat flowsâinstalling upside down can cause overheating, and worse yet if itâs inside a case.
Not saying itâs impossible, just suggesting you check with Amazon first.
I have not paid much attention as I have a teen using the data in the car as well. However I have had my dot since April 1 and I had 4gb of data that day as well and I still have 3.2 gb of data available. Keep in mind I am not using the dot for much more than interacting with my home devices on ST and not streaming music through it. I really see the use case for this with TTS becomes available for ST notifications through the dot and when the dot can communicate with other Amazon dots or echoes in the home. Then data usage might become an issue as I think it will get much more usage that way.
I find Echo doesnât work well in a crowded cocktail party. Does Dot hear fine when driving at speed? Obviously you have to have the top and windows up.
